I need to reinforce the standing area of a downwind SUP I'm building. Here's my options in no particular order:
4mm PVC
2mm Cork
3mm Soric Lantor
1mm Pine/Bamboo veneer
Board is EPS with 200g High Modulus carbon and 75g fibreglass. Top & bottom carbon overlapped in the centre of the board & where the paddle dings occur. Planning to run 4 oz Innegra over one of the options above & place deck pad over.
Recommendations?
forget bamboo or pine that should never be used on boards, any core matt absorbs a lot of resin so ether pvc or core cork, 4mm pvc will probably be over kill and you would need to feather it in to the board well to prevent stress points. the cork may be a fraction heavier than the equivalent in pvs but do the job easily. i just built two cork boards that were 4oz ether side of 2mm cork and they were very solid!
Corecork works great, I'm building an exposed cork version of a Vader for kiting which should go sweet (using 3mm).
Does anyone know of corecork suppliers in WA? I'm currently buying from Adelaide but shipping is expensive!
Cheers.
