Or at least some embarisment

This is a standard lifebuoy drogue, its too small for a sup, but can easily be sized to do the job.

The rim is weighted with heavy stainless steel wire to make it sink quick.
It would be secured to a second leg rope plug.

The container would be held shut with velcro requiring a good pull to deploy, minimising accidental deployment.
The red line is longer than the legrope will stretch, when the legie breaks the drogue is pulled out holding tail to wind.
What do you think DJ ? You want to be the test pilot?

This is a fascinating idea and really deserves to be tested in some solid DW conditions.

Good thinking LSD

It really has so many other applications also, Surf ski's, Kayak's, OC1's etc. If you fall off the HP ones are under 10kg, they will be gone as quick as you know. This is a great idea.

The only issue is the weight in the rim I would guess, if you spend 5 grand on getting a canoe under 10kg the last thing you want is 2kg of weight in a drogue.

How much weight would be in them Dean?

Weight looks like about 200 grams, maybe 250. Heaviest part could be the selection of XXmm dia rope...

Dean, would the chord be attached to your ankle also, like a 2nd leg rope ?? But wouldn't you still be tied to the board, via the 2nd rope ?? Or am I missing something....

Worth investigating though....

DJ, what are thoughts on a paddle leash... paddle connected to the board, like surf ski's in the old days... The paddle would be a bit of a drag line... worth a trial, with a boat... ?????
