The best 'mature' person at the Mambo was without-a-doubt our very own AA (Andrew from Balmoral Surf shop in Sydney).

It was great to meet Andrew and if they had a trophy for the old guys Andrew would have won it.. Next year they will for sure.

And as keen as an amped gromit. Up before 6am and over 8 hours of time in the water each day. Hard to keep up with! And yeah, absolutely ripping in all conditions.

Yeah, it's one of the new Laguna Bay epoxies. 10'6" I believe. He was ripping on it until a mad Frenchman ran into him and knocked a side fin out at the plugs - before I had a chance to give it a test run.

Yeah the red board is a 10'6 x 28 1/2 Laguna Bay custom that I had Tully & Mike St John shape for me - reeeaal nice! It took me by surprise as it has a LOT more rocker than my 10'6 PSH, but it still paddles very nicely and surfs tight and smooth.
I felt I had outgrown my 10'6 PSH in the smaller stuff and a 10'er felt too tippy. This board fits nicely in-between being thinner and more refined. I really loved this board in the gruntier stuff - turns on a dime! (I'll get it fixed up and get CASSO on to it).

Once the mad Frenchman ran me down at Pambula I thought I would persevere with the smaller 10' PSH. I was quite surprised how quickly I adapted to the smaller board - I guess riding (beering) constantly over a 3 days helped refine the balance. It really felt like another level stepping down to this shorter board, it was SO much easier to throw around!.
I'm 90kg which isn't super heavy but I find my 6'1 centre of gravity a bit of a hinderance when it gets choppy. I flipped flopped around a fair bit but once on the waves it was heaven to be on a smaller board.




As for being an OLD FART! F$%&KYOUZ ALL!!

It's the mad rocks which are guilty , not the mad Frenchman
