The guy Garcia was bashing looked like a kid.Hope that wasnt the case. Two sides to every storey , but on face value the guy obviousley doesent subscribe to the famous Hawaiin Aloha. Setting a good example for his kid , the guy has a history of this sort of stuff doesent he?

Just watched an old vid of him in 2007 going off at another pro. What a wanker , i hope the guy lays charges.Doesnt matter if the guy he tried to choke and drown was a complete asshole , its no excuse from someone who was invited to an event , probably paid to come out too. Sad , bad , and pretty disgusting.

Karma will deal with Mr. Garcia, It always does! Go back and watch "Feel Good Friday" Remember you don't have to be a Hawaiian to have " The Aloha" spirit and you dont have to be a non surfer to be an aggro wanker. There may be two sides to the story, but as I have said in this forum before violence is never the answer. He is guilty of assault and there is video footage of him in the act. The umbrella of protecting your kid does not spread does to nearly killing some one else's.

Great win for Taj, hope he steps it up this year.

I was kind of dissapointed as I was sure it was going to be a good year for Flores. He is on my Fantasy Surfer team. I hope this incident doesnt knock him off his roll.

I am hoping Kelly retires so it comes back to a Mick, Parko, Taj, Jordy chase for the title. As long as Kelly is around and wanting to win he will and those guys will battle for 2nd.

Violence is certailnly not the answer , but sometimes unnavoidable , its the level of violence thats all wrong here. In the interview with the pro surfer , he said "i wasnt going to walk away".Well why not! Would have saved them all a **** load of trouble coming there way.If the guy some way threatend his son , then he sure has the right to protect him , but he went to far. More concerned about showing off his BJJ skills me thinks.Hero (NOT)

Pro surfers and supposedly role models, competing in another country. They should have simply walked away, no matter who was involved and what was right and wrong. I agree that sometimes violence is unavoidable, but from Flores statement to the media and the fact Garcia ran 100m to get to the incident, this would seem to have been avoidable.

Violence between humans is unfortunate and unavoidable. I'd just hope it's kept in places like around Afghanistan, Yemen, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Chechnya, Pakistan, Moe, Adelaide and well away from my life.

What a disgrace. I am once more dissappointed but not surprised that the asp has not issued a statement yet on this subject matter. They really are a useless organization. Not too mention I just did a quick check if the Aussie surf mag websites and it's only mentioned on one. Seems every time there is an incident they run for cover so as to protect their own....its time they grew up. Act tough and stop all this crap - get on the front foot and show the younger folk coming through that violence is not the way forward. ITs not a solution.

As I recall the Frenchman is the same one who called the judges racist last year after getting knocked out of the quicksilver pro....it would appear from eye witness reports that he was keen to start things off on Friday. Send him home.

Flores is out of the quick pro and Garcia from surfest. They will both also face an ASP disciplinary committee for further sanctions.

On a side note there is a really funny video on vimeo of Flores not signing an autograph for a kid, think it was a hoax but it is pretty funny.

I'm not putting sh_t on Adelaide - just comparing it with one of Victoria's more embarrassing regional centres. It's not my fault Adelaide has the highest suicide rate in Australia - that's just a fact, if I lived there I'd seriously consider my life choices also.

You guys can have the grand prix back for a night race - no one here want's it anymore. For all I care you and all your chardonnay sipping mates can all party all night long at the
Crazy Horse in Hindley St.

^^^Surely you could come back at me with something better than that? I've just compared Adelaide with Moe.

I watch a healthy dose of trashy tv programs and I've noticed that "Adelaide" seems to come up quite often whenever there is a story about deviant crime or serial killers.

What we do know is that two pro surfers got into it with a young local. Both the pros should have known better, full stop.

Jeez, imagine the outcome if one of our boys did that sorta thing to a local in Hawaii.

Interesting...

Settling a disagreement / teaching someone some respect / standing up for yourself face to face (using force) = NOT COOL

Bagging someone out on an internet forum (eg. the Guy Andrews thread, and Sunny & Flores) = OK

I love the Utopia for which you live.

PS. From what I've heard the guy that got dusted wasn't a kid, he's about 25.

You don't hear too much about suicide in Australia. Interesting graphs though - especially 80+yo Males and people living in the Russian Federation. Can sort of understand that Tasmania has the highest rate of suicide. The few I've met wore home made clothes, looked at the ground a lot while kicking rocks with their webbed feet - hard to blame them for the poor life choices their parents made.
