Mmmm, some interesting insights.
As a 53 yo lifelong surfer, I am thankful that SUP allows me to keep surfing even though my aging, abused body isn't able to cope with my 5'6" to 7' shortboard quiver that has been gathering dust over the past year.
Do you have to be rich to SUP? No, just wait a year or so for the current high performance equipment to become dated and affordable second hand.
Or, as the vid says, go paddle flat water or rapids- or downwind - which you can on older, wider SUP equipment, which is relatively economical.
I agree that SUP is opening up new horizons for surfing and paddling which will involve more people than younger, fitter athletes.
