Looks like a sensible performance board. Admittedly, I was watching along waiting to see you get a few waves. Maybe next episode?

New model looks sharp, here is a vid of the original JP 8'6 (non carbon model) fresh out of the box in some small fun waves couple years ago to keep you going until someone puts a vid of the new version up...

Thanks DJ and the Goldie crew will be at Merimbula again this year with a bunch of new toys. There is a couple more of nice surprises coming out and Shane working on a video but Huey is not co-operating. Hopefully soon.

It really is a big improvement , it's a far more progressive style surfing board. It bridges the gap between the 8-2 and 8-6. The old 8-6 is modelled off the 8-10 but the new 8-6 is modelled off the 8-2 in every way it's basically a bigger version. Still 29 wide and 110 litres same as old 8-6, touch more unstable but it doesn't worry me at all. Punches through waves better and the extra tail lift gives it more boost when paddling for a wave. Definitely has more speed and a shorter turn arc which lets you come all the way round on cutbacks to do the full figure 8 turn and not the cheater cutback or dishpan.

The old 8-6 still has it's place for people just after a safer easier to ride board dropping down in size but the new one is just that step further forward without having to drop down to the 8-2 , which can be a bitch for us larger units. All bias aside there is nothing else on the production market that can match it for it's length and volume. It's really rail driving with true short board feel and just fun to surf , you may not look like you are surfing like Kelly but it feels like it IMHO

Thanks for that Rob, have been riding the old 8'6 for a while now and tried the 8'2, chalk and cheese.

The 8'2 really felt like surfing a short board compared to the 8'6, will now have to demo the new one.

Cheers, Deano

What about these new JP boards I just tried there website and googled them but didn't come up with anything, more info would be much appreciated ( probably worthy of its own thread)

Thanks Rob.... lots of good info on the new shape!
Really appreciated the turntable view.... gave a good overall look at all sides of the board.

I know the review was for the 8'6.... but are the same updates coming out on the 8'10 or larger sizes?

No new 8-10 this year but what they have introduced is the 8-5 x 30 Fusion 130L and has a really nice rounded pin. But I agree with you the 8-10 could do with a hair cut as well
