A friend and i have been playing around with a few ideas for a Down winder style board. We didn't want a full on distance machine, all we want to do is bomb some swells when they come up and cruise on the calmer days..
These are a few concepts we have come up with:
We thought about a quad with tow board fin angles, basing it off some open water skis
This is a ski concept from a WA company that looked the goods. Thought about similar lines, but went down another path.

We've been playing around with boat design for a while and wanted to see if the 2 elements (boats & sups) could be combined and have something in common, that would work well in a paddle board environment.
These are some designs that we want to try.
Ive had experience with fins at different cants and angles and i really like the twin fin feel and stability as opposed to single fin ( i hate single fins). Adding this concept to this type of hull might add that special feel we've been looking for
1. 11f NUB Nose

2. 11f SPLICE Nose

Interested to hear peoples feed back!!!!
Cheers

Hey Joeyjojo, I think the concept of a racing yacht design hull would be great to see. I'm looking forward to seeing what Laird and the puma yacht racing team come up with when they design SUPS. There has to be some merit in the design but I just can't get my head around the stability issues as a keel gives that support. This is my simpleton yacht knowledge. I like where your heading I'm just wondering if the fin placement of your twinnies will stop you from turn and chasing down runners, sought of like training wheels on a bike keeping kids upright and straight. But I'd love to see a proto type and some footage in action if you go ahead with the concept. The second design reminds me more of a yacht shape and it looks great.

go for it looks good.imo just watch the height of the the front section. from my experience on various boards- super volume/ height always seems to has some issues with side wind and swell. the twinnie fins with big cant has me interested

cheers

The bottom view reminds me of a Volvo 60 hull.

just looking again.rounded hull so to speak and a very narrow nose. those fins are going to have to do a lot of work i would say.

I like it except the big square tail, the rounded (belly) bottom shape.. the thin tail (in the first pic).. and the canted/angled side fins.. Also I like the NUB nose but IMO these's not enough rocker to down-wind on it.
