Check Ash's Blog - The Currumbin.

He has some great pics of Currumbin in our cyclone/storm from Sat/Sun/Monday.

Some people are still without power, places are trashed, roofs ripped off hospitals, houses and pubs. The place still looks like a warzone.

Thing is we got off easy, up North they still have rising flood waters, people have died.

Oswald, the little cyclone that could!

The flooded park with the trees down is the site of the infamous BBQ.

Stand by as we cross to Lacey for an update on the status of the board studio aka Public BBQ.

that little bit of weather we had was in no way a cylcone for us....I think that last close cyclone the GC had was about 1988.... it seems that for some reason in the age of status updates and 24hr information about every little thing, that things have been forgotten and things blown out of proportion.

this is in no way taking away from those affected by this current storm, but it has been before and will be worse at some point....

i can't remember a wind that strong from that direction on the goldie and that direction did the damage

i've done a few snows seasons and winds like that happens just about every time a strong dump of snow happens.

for two years running we had a couple of days were wind exceeded 225 km/h.

a couple of roofs lost, but hardly a broken tree branch.

interestingly it was mainly the steeper pitched roofs that went when the normal thinking is the flatter roofs are at risk.

people are dump thou- there were some walking to there lifts with their ski gear on.

ski patrol- are you insane

No it was no longer a cyclone, it was however stronger and more sustained than a category 1 cyclone.

What was unique was that it travelled parallel with the coastline at a very slow speed. Most cyclones get a run up, head inland and then die. This one stayed on the coast and fed itself from the coral sea so that it did not die beyond transforming from TC to Tropical Low.

Yes, we've had bigger storms and I remember 88 could be 89 but I can't remember anything that went for nearly 3 days with that much wind and rain.

Smile anyway Husq, you should get some work rebuilding something out of it.

We've cetainly had more rain than that before but the wind strength was a bit unusual. The wind strength did differ a fair bit depending on where you were though. I live on acreage west of the M1 and the wind wasn't too bad out here. Down on the beachfront though, it was horrendous and quite possibly the strongest I've ever seen. Friends on Mount Tamborine also said it was devastatingly strong up there.

I wonder how long the climate skeptics can keep saying , its just natural cyclic events. We know have a climate change skeptic as a premier and more than likely a new climate change skeptic as a prime minister. If you have a waterfront property id be selling

This is just the earth's way of correcting any inbalance. Happen for centuries and will continue although frequency will increase with the amount of pollution and stress on natural resources. Imo.
