My buddy Teeps has just got himself a new board. Not everyone manages a full carbon 14' racer for their first board but thanks to a run out deal, he's managed to scam the bargain of the century with this Starboard Surf Race...

And here is it alongside my poor cousin - the blue stripe glass version. I'm very jealous. There is about 2 - 3 kg difference between these two boards and they both compare very well with the Naish Glide 14' counterparts for weight and price at the moment.

And here it is on the water. I must do a time test to see if there is any extra speed to speak of courtesy of the weight difference.

Fantastic !! Great board for you Teeps !

Get onto DJ's Spin Classes too !! (DJ's DW runs that run almost as frequently as Spin Classes at your local gym!)

A fantastic all round board. Touring, Down Wind, Races, Flatwater, Rivers, .... great stability too. Plus, you can even have a fun play in the small waves too.

Enjoy!

(Piros, that's the HMVS Cerberus. There is a SUP Vic race out there this weekend.)

Very nice.. But it looks like it needs another coat of white paint.. The carbon fiber is showing through..

Looking forward to you joining us on the next DW'er..

Not quite HMAS Cerberus is a navy training base on the Mornington Peninsula. The scuttled wreck off Black Rock is HMVS Cerberus as it was commissioned by the Victorian colony pre Federation. Though technically you are correct as it was briefly known as HMAS Cerberus after Federation. It's apparently the last surviving colonial (pre-Fed) Australian naval vessel.

I am loving this board. I call her RED SONJA! When Woody says "first board" he fails to mention that I have been borrowing his boards for almost a year now, so my "first" board was really a mix of Woody's 'spares', which was awesome - I knew what was right for me, before buying. Also loving my Kialoa Methane. Can't wait for my first DW'er DJ!!
I did get a veritable bargain on the carbon, thanks to the promo. In the end it was a no-brainer, if you're gonna do something, do it with class, I say!
Can't wait for the Cerberus Race on Sunday.

Would this be suitable for 115kgs 6 foot boof head for Perth metro downwinders ? might have to see if the local shop has any runouts left?

I heard a whisper that Teeps got the last carbon model (could be wrong) but there are certainly some glass models selling at $500 off the rrp when I bought mine a few months back.

I reckon the Surf Race would float you at 115 kg. And it is a superb downwind board imho.

I am a bit over 100kg, and was closer to 110kg when I first used PTWoody's glass 14' Surf Race, and also have used it with my 20kg+ 4yo son on the front, and it is still super buoyant. In fact several people told me this is the board for a fat bastard like me!

Go for it, I say! Especially at the price. The only real difference IMHO, is 3kgs or so in weight, when carrying it, but minimal difference at my body weight on the water. Perhaps a smidge quicker off the mark - but that again's a weight thing.

Of course, royal blue stripes on white has tremendous appeal, even if there's a couple kg's extra weight to push.

The difference between Brigitte Nielsen and a 14' Surf Race? One is top heavy and has the dramatic range of a plank. The other is a SUP board.
