Hi quite new to sup,i know my technique is not great,i had my 10 year old take a video of me the other day so i might see were i am going wrong. Looking for some tips.
Mate you have one talented 10 Yo there!! I wish mine would video
Only thing I would say is make sure your tail kick pad is directly over your middle fin and make sure you put your back foot as close as you can to it when bottom turning. Then stomp right on it when you top turn! Keep your foot close to the rail as well - lots more feet movement on big SUPs.
yeah collaroy is a great wave to learn on my biggest tip would be to try and leave you paddle gliding along the waters surface when riding waves as you can use your paddle to help you balance and when you are on a wave ATM you have you paddle up in the air flying around above you this can through you off balance very easy and looks to me like it is? Also when you do have your paddle lower closer to the waters surface and you do lose balance you can jam it into the wave to help you recover. hope this helps a little
The wind has got a little chilli up here in Sydney in the last week and i'm a wimp in the cold. Thanks for the comments , looking at it now it looks like i am steering the board with my front leg,i notice it's quite close to the rail and i am not getting my back foot back far enough , this board is 8.7.
Cool vid, cool music (better than that god awful death metal crap though I don't mind Cradle of Filth ). I'd def be encouraging your kid to keep on with the videoing.
Firstly, great music for the video - as someone already said - so much nicer than the heavy/death metal or the gangster rap crap that is so often on videos.
Also, great camera work (especially for a kid!!). It's really nice to watch a video from a fixed and natural camera angle, rather than say, a camera mounted on the end of paddle, or something dizzy like that. Felt like i was just sitting on the coast watching - very relaxing.
Finally, I'll leave the tips on technique to those more expert than I am. Unless, it's windsurfing or bodysurfing, I'm not qualified to respond. However, it was great to see a video of someone at your stage of learning (a bit more advanced than me). In some ways, I got more encouragement from it than watching videos of the pros (who make it look too easy in way). I'm at the very beginning of learning of to surf on SUP, so I'll be keen to read people's tips and watch any other videos of yours or anyone else's progress.
