I have regularily seen this happen at Pt Henry on low tide
when a ship travels thru the hoptoun channel.

Yep there definitely is a wave at Point Henry, Corio Bay near Geelong.
I wrote a a story about it in Surf magazine circa 1978.
A tool you could use to see if there are any ships coming is the folllowing ship tracking tool which is worth a look at for its own sake. (thanks LSD)

You would be hoping for a tanker going back the other way. Or a mate with a tinny.
