Finally after months of gathering parts The Evil Twin has been created.

The foam blank is made up from pieces of broken short boards and mals from old Kirra point , the cloth is discarded clothing from boat people washed up on the beach at Christmas Island and the resin is spit and gouleys I have gathered from all my new friends on mals at Greenmount and Currumbin over the past 2 years.

Board specs are:- 8-7 x 28.5 x 4 , stepped deck , super flyer , knob tail. Very pulled in nose.

When the board was finished and I picked it up my first reaction was I'm too big for this.....but I took it for a test ride yesterday in knee high peelers and I was really surprised that it actually floated me and easily caught the sub 1ft waves. Being a twin fin it tracks dead straight as there is less tow in on the fins. For what few turns I could put in the board felt good. Heading off down the Coast tomorrow hopefully give a full review if we find some waves.

Rob

Hi Rob,

Looks good!

Great detail where the drop rail blends into the the flyer.

Do you know the nose and tail widths as I am trying to work out how small I can go on my next one from Dale.

cheers

Superb graphics. And the bottom looks terrific too. This thread is almost as erotic as the sexy girls of SUP thread.

I thought you'd put one of those metal mulisha logos on it - I reckon it would work with the bullet holes.

I guess it looks pretty sweet as it is. Don't want to over do it.

It needs some trickles of blood coming from the bullet holes and maybe an exit wound on the other side.

Unusual looking board.. I look forward to hearing how it goes.. Just wondering if it's a Dale's design or has he made what you wanted?

The fins aren't where I'd expect them to be in proportion to the outline and flyers.. It's almost what I'd call a twinser.. Very interesting..

Nice looking stick...look forward to hear how it goes. Good idea pulling the tail in...SUPS with there super wide tails have a tedancey to tun real flat and slide, hopefully this will correct that?

Good pick up DJ , the fin placements are based around the Twinser . I got alot of info for fin placement from the Swaylocks website.

The board is my basic design but Dale did all the hard work (this is his second step deck) , I love the way he stepped the rails and way they flow into the nose and tail. Dale cut a basic 8-8 on his CNC machine and then attacked it with a hand saw and shaping tools. It wasn't long before there was a big pile of foam laying on the floor and all of a sudden felt really fat looking at the skinny blank

I had it out again today in more knee high peelers at Cabarita (we had it to ourselves) and I was able to string a few turns together it felt really lively and very EVIL.[}:)]

Rob

the deck grip is a OAM (On a Mission)

Wow! Looks like a bona fide 80's board. Love the outline, love the whole thing actually. I probably would have other fin options as well but I read about your success with twins at Strad. Insane Piros, I love it. A board I'd really like to ride.

Ditto what CMC said!!
If its not a rude question Piros, how many Kegs are you carrying at the mo?
I am in the process of ordering a newy and reckon a variation on that theme as a quaddy would be the absolute ducks. Am finding that the slightly fuller nose is hanging me up in sucky waves and I often catch the outside front rail with predictable results.
Cheers

Thanks CMC
Sparks: Mate I'm no light weight at 6ft x 92kgs , we did a huge road trip this morning (left 3am) down Dogmans way and got some nice 3 to 4 foot surf.... perfect to test the board. I had a bucket of fins on the beach to try out.

The first set of fins I had in were the Futures AMT very easy to surf , it was like drawing with crayons the board went everywhere you wanted it to go , I was having a ball but it was too skatey in critical sections. I then put a set of Vector 2 FIN 550 in heaps more grip and bit but they were letting go on the re-enrty and I was loosing my drive back off the top. I then dropped in a set of Rastas....problem solved those fins have some serious bite and they really pull the board onto it's stepped rail in the bottom turn giving it heaps of drive and speed ....very smooth flowing turn.

In summary the board absolutely rips I love it...off to Hawaii in 4 weeks can't wait to surf it over there.

Thanks Rob
Sounds like we're about same same on height and weight which gives me plenty to think about when ordering the newy this week. Am definitely going to pull in the nose and tail, already a fan of the step rail. That thing should go nuts in a bit of juice and I reckon you should score that in spades in Hawai. Had a canard twin in the early nineties which had a similar outline and the nastier it got the better it went. It stuck through turns like s...t to a blanket!
Have a good one
Cheers

CMC

The reason there are no other boxes is because those fin placements won't suit a quad or a 2+1 , so there is no point .Worst case is I might have had to put in a stabilser ONLY if needed and that can be retro fitted but the board doesn't need it so I glad I left it out.

Boards with 3 ,4 & 5 boxes do give heaps of options but if you are going to ride a board as a twin all those empty slots just add up to drag.

Yep I agree those placements would probably not work well with other plugs other than a stabilizer. What I was thinking was a fin box in the usual position that could run as a single or as Parmenter type widow maker setup where the leading edge intersects the trailing of the sides. You made it as a twin however and from what you have already said you enjoy Twins and no doubt this board will go insane for you. No crticism from me, I think it looks amazing.

You can tape over the box neatly to reduce drag, I have also seen boxes filled with silicone etc but as you say if you have no plans of using it as anything else than a twin you need not bother. Congrats on having a free mind and the $ to put your ideas into action.
