Heading to Fiji with family in August and naturally will be taking one of my Sup's. Just got quote for freight off Qantas. They want $500 to get it there one way. Anybody been there with Sup ? Sounds expensive. Other option is to hire over there. Either way I have to Sup or I will go mad. Staying on Treasure Island for 7 nights and Coral Coast for 8. It will be a great opportunity to sup. With 3 buffets on the daily menu, I willmneed paddle some km's each day or I will need to book 2 seats coming home. Help me.

I am planning a Fiji tyrip with the family too, so would be very interested to hear of where the best places are to paddle, and where you can hire boards and paddles from.

Emailed Lisa @ www.waluwatersports.com and got a quote for 14 days sup hire for FJ$1000 ($520 Aussie). This includes drop off at Nadi & pick up from Shangri-La on coral coast. Works out around $35 per day. They stock Naish 9'6, 10'5 & 11'6 in the Nalu series. The 11'6 has a viewing window in the front of board. Perfect for cruising on the flat with the kids and checking out the sea life, etc. As I mentioned previously, I got a quote off Qantas for freight of my sup one way for $500. Tell em they're dreaming. Hire is the way to go.

Just take it as luggage mate, I took 2 to the Maldives no charge. 4 to WA with Virgin - no charge. Why are you getting quotes for freight? Is it a monster race board?

This is my mates place , beautiful spot and really affordable , it's right in the middle between Suva & Nadi. He has his own Sup's and boat plus surf straight out front. You can call in and surf even if you're not staying there , very relaxed place.Really worth checking out.

Cheers Piros,
Thanks for the info on the Beachouse. I checked out the website and will be heading over for a surf when I stay at Shangri-La. Looking on the map I think it should be a 1/2 hr drive. I will still hire the Sup as I am staying at Treasure Island for 1 st week of trip.
P.s. Love your work on "Living the Stroke". Bought it a month ago and have watched it 3 times. Looked like heaps of fun and a memorable time.

I certainly will. And post a few pics. You would have loved to have your lens out last Monday night at "Ours" surf break at south head of Botany Bay. The Maroubra boys were towing in at midnight under flood lights for a new doco out in the near future. if not familiar with this break, just google "Ours surf break". No room for error.

My tip is to use another airline if you haven't already booked with qantas. Both pacific blue and air pacific take sups for about $20 if you're under the weight limit.

I am booked with Air Pacific but there limit is 2.92 m for length of board. I got a quote off Qantas for freight. Most airlines limit to 9ft due to the standard size of the cargo containers.
