My wife has taken a shine to SUP but at the most 60kg

What board does someone so light get? I would say mainly if not all flat water

Hi BP

I also weigh around 60kg.. and been on a few different boards mainly due to struggling with being so light weight. If she is a beginner and wants to surf 9foot starboard, or 10 foot whopper, NSP, etc would be a great start.. will she be surfing or paddling flat? Personally, I find boards around 9 foot easy for me to surf, lighter to carry, as well as good paddlers. It will come down to what she wants to do.. :)

10'5 Starboard Drive, enough waterline and fairly flat rocker to move nicely on flat water but also surfs really well. IMO whatever you get if it is much shorter than this you lose any glide at all.

The whole surfing thing of 'too much board' really doesn't apply - at least regarding length, on flat water.

BP.
I bought the 12ft PSH gun for me for downwinders, flat water and some waves. Ive got the same mana as you and a 10'6 Naish Nalu as well.
Missus is 54kg and much prefers the Gun over the other 2.
Downside is I have to load and unload it from the ute
Up side is I get a downwinder and another board option and happy wife = happy life
Dont worry too much about size IMO.

my GF loves the 9'5" Mana after starting on a 11'6" and now wants something smaller - she is also ard the 60kg mark. I told her she can not get a smaller board until she is catching more waves. The Mana is like a Malibu for her and great for learning the basics of catching waves etc. But stil pretty easy to handle (compared to the 11'6") when lifting on and off car etc. Easy of use is vital if u do not want to have to do everything and u want to encourage her. The joy of which is you end up with someone who is happy to get out of bed at 6am on a weekend!

Get her a board that you can use as well would be my solution as others have said.

Yea, its a hard choice for her, As if it could be used by me as well this would work

But if she is stuck on flat water only maybe a dedicated Naish glide 14ft ??

Then i can get a go

A psh gun would also work for her but i would get no use out of it.
I think i need to get her on both styles of board and see where she ends up
I just sopke to her and she is real ken to have a go in noosa but the idea i got from here was on the river...Flat water

Would the ladies go for a 14 glide of is this length for the men

I agree, But the mana is wide and her arms and body is short i just dont think she will swing a paddle around it.

I will speak more with her tonight and go from there

heaps of girls here on the 14ft glide.

maybe some thing in the 12'6 range might be good??? maybe like the new Fanatic 12'6 its fast stable and can catch small waves if need be!! and still nice and light..

Out of the eight SUPs I've got at my house (8'6"-12'6"), my wife goes for the PSH 12'0" Gun as her board of choice. It's got good stability and plenty of glide for flat water stuff. When she accasionally ventures out into some tiny surf, it's easy to pick up waves with and has got enough nose lift to avoid the "straight hander nose dive".

It doesn't matter as BP, being the perfect gentleman that he is, will be her personal board caddy all the way to the shoreline anyway (I'm sure).

Yea i will end up luging it I asked here what she would prefer and she said ummmmmm maybe flat water but surfing ummmmmmmmm

So i guess first thing is to get her on a sup in noosa and let her decide what way to go.

I almost know it will be flat water, But ya never know
I might be a nice husband and pick her up a cheap sup somewhere

I am about that size, maybe a bit smaller and sound similar to your wife. I will try tiny waves but mainly do flat water paddles for enjoyment and fitness.
Don't go the 14ft for her.
I tried the 12ft race board from Naish and although it was cool and good for bigger people or people who are better in skill but for me it was a lot harder to move.

I would go 9'6 Nalu or 9'5 mana for anyone my size and skill level (that is no skill at all but a willing attitude)

I got my wife a DC 12'6 identical as Travis BOP board since she uses it 99% for flat water. She tried it before and loved it because of the glide
I would not have purchased a 12'6 for myself but now I have one in the garage and it's a lot fun for me as well
I asked dale to make it light as it was important for her.
11.7kg with deck and fin...she can carry it from the car to the beach without me being around!

It does catch the smallest waves and behave super easy across the wave so it's really a lot of fun
I am still waiting to try it next to it's sister board to see if what I changed on the bottom brings more stability. I'll bring it to currumbin next week
