The Aussies are one of few competitors that have to pay their own way. Pretty poor effort by surfing Australia considering our track record.

Not sure about that - from what I've heard pretty much all countries competitors had to pay their own way....South Africa's team paid their own way - only support they got was through SUPSA and individual fundraising efforts. The racers also had to buy their own boards + transport them there as well.

And ISA charges USD200 per entrant x a possible 11 paddlers.

Still a great spectacle though - although Beau and Tarryn were possibly robbed today.....

is the same and I know a few of the central and South American teams actually drove here because it was going to be cheaper.
