No problems with the weather in Melbourne for paddling.

Yesterday we experienced perfect Autumnal conditions, so I loaded up a fleet of boards onto two cars and took two tribes for an afternoon of paddling fun in the sun.

And that's after the week's worth of pumping swell we've had as well.

Ahhh, it's not bad being a Vicco!

Hmmm, too true.

It's just a case of slipping on a few extra mm's of rubber and gritting the teeth.

Still, no problems with crowd control.

There is nothing nicer than paddling in after a pleasant couple of hours in clean, glassy, uncrowded winter surf.

You can smell the wood smoke from houses or the occasional fire on the beach. Sometimes you can see a long wisp of smoke trailing out to sea under the inversion layer.

Some guy will have the footy on the radio in the car park. It won't be loud but you can hear it clearly in the still winter air. It adds to the atmosphere and brings back surfing sense memories (even though I can't stand football.)

Wash down with a jug of hot water. Jump into tracky dacks, hoodie and ugg boots then cruise home to a glass of red and a hearty home cooked spag bol or slow cooked lamb roast and a night in front of the fire. Bliss!

has been a couple of superb days at the rock, when I first started paddling with the crew in the mornings it was a sort of leisurely hard paddle of 5k's or so but as of this morning it seems everyone's fitness has improved so much that it is now just a 5k sprint!
I have attached a couple of old postcard shots of Half Moon bay, in the wayback old days there were lots of beach boxes, in one of the old postcards the HMAS Cerberus is sitting way above the water line, there have been numerous attempts to get funds to raise and restore the Cerberus, about 3 million is needed

Indeed! Epic Crunchy Point last Sunday morning (6.30) - 2 hardy Suppers, over head high rights, a catamaran anchored just to the side of the break and no one else out ............. awesome!

Agreed, I love to look at old pics against new ones of the same area. Looks like a great spot, you guys must of been offshore from the wreck when that first pic was taken. Diving must be great around there

There's an exclusion zone marked by the yellow buoys so you can't swim or dive around the wreck. One bloke last year probably wishes he'd stuck by the rules, though thanks to his untimely demise, the area is now known to the local crew as Dead Man's Cove.

What is also nice is being out surfing when it is sleeting, wearing a 4/3 fleece wetsuit, boots and hood with a brim.

You can angle your head just so the brim stops the sleet from stinging your eyes. You get a hot flush in your face and it feels kind of warm for a moment.

In the 70's at Bells you had to get somebody to help with zippers because your fingers would not work. There was usually a surf chick sitting in a Kombi who was happy to help. [}:)]
