Thanks Bernie, nice concept with the short courses. Great for my 1st Sup race. Start training tomorrow morning. Can't wait.
Anybody keen for breaky afterwards ?
Sounds great, this is totally what hacks like me wish to get involved in.
After spending a week full on anxiety over the 11km event on the weekend at bondi, the 5km race is a walk in the park BUT totally do'able without risk of heart attack !
Unfortunately, this weekend's race clashes with the CSSUPC Club Round but I'm in the others for sure.
Question, do the 2.5km and 5km races start together and it's just 1 x lap for the short course and 2 x laps for the 5km or similar....as start for Race 1&2 are at the same time, assume they start together.
Also, are the Cat 1 bum bag PFD's acceptable ?
Thanks for your efforts, between you guys, Kissa, Sam and all the other crew helping run these events, it's going to be great times ahead.
Good on you Scotty and Greg! Look forward to seeing you in later rounds Chris!

Hey Breezers,
I was chatting to Dez the organiser of this Sundays race at Balmoral and he asked if I knew of anybody registering on the day (not on-line). He mentioned it is helpful if he had an idea of numbers before race day.
Please post or PM me and I will pass on numbers to him. Include if you are racing 2.5k or 5k. This race is a great opportunity to race at a shorter distance if you are New to racing.
This is my 1st race and can't wait.
BTW Balmoral is totally protected by the Southerly winds.
See you Sunday.
Guys a bit of confirmation of details for Sunday ...
PFDs are absolutely encouraged for SUPs, however if you are on a SUP and have a leg rope on then you can opt not to wear a PFD. Leg ropes are of course compulsory ... if you don't have one you can always borrow or hire one down there on race day. And remember if you dont have a board or a paddle you can hire one at a discount rate to race ... so there is no excuse!
As far as the course goes - it will depend on the conditions but expect to be close to the beach, protected and to do a couple of laps if you are doing the 5km and 1 lap of you are doing the 2.5km.
See you on the water!
They come in 'Big Man' size! Check Series Sponsor and Ambassador Dave 'Belly' Bell of Oz Stand Up Paddle Centers' - he's no light weight!
Online rego's are about to close ... but don't forget you can register on the day ... see you on the water tomorrow!
YEEW!
Great day guys. Thanks to Bernie, Dez and the Blast crew.
A touch under 5 k was the distance which was perfect for my 1st race.
I gave it 100% around the course and was happy with my race.
Neck and neck with Chris (Supanimal) was a good pace setter and he pipped me at the post.
Plenty to learn after my 1st race:
1. Don't start behind the pack as the wash is a killer (especially from lead speed boat).
2. Learn to turn Sup around marker buoy rather then paddle a wide arc - good time saver.
3. Buy a race board. The Laird Coastrunner has served its purpose for my 1st 6 months of SUPing but now it's time to get fair dinkum. I got the race bug now.
It was great to meet Greg, Bernie and catch up with Chris again. Looking forward to the next few races. Shaggy did a great job on BBQ duty.
And a special thanks to the parking coppers for staying away. I rocked up with $200 cash and no shrapnel for the meters. Ran the gaunlet and got away with it.
Cool shots mate, that powder seems to be doing the trick
Sorry I missed it. Heaps on. Next time. You guys heading up to Port Maq next week ?
