Here's some pics from this morning's session - the first with the new and improved SuckerCam ... yes, it also takes stills now.

I'll post some video from this session too, just gotta find some time to edit it.

Nice photos Casso
How did you get the camera to take the photos?
Or are they a frame from the video?

If you have/get Windows Media Player Classic:

download.cnet.com/s/media-player-classic/

You can get screenshots of your video, using the program as long the video can play on the media player.

My new camera (GoPro Wide) has a setting which will take a hi-res photo every 2 seconds. I could have got stills from the video but they wouldn't be nearly as clear.

Hi DJ,

Merry Xmas buddy.

The GoPro cameras are being distributed by a southcoast company and should be in all good surf shops by now. They are selling fast. ( took 3 promos and my own up to the Coffs race and only came back with my SD card!)
If you can't find any down your way you can get one via my online store.

GoPro Hero Surf Wide Angle - $289 + $10P&H

Here's the setup:

I just used the sucker from SuckerCam v1.0 and riveted the FCS plug attachment (that comes with the GoPro Surf Hero) to it. Works a treat, strong as on ox and you can move it from board to board.

I got my GoPro from: www.sportscamera.com.au. It was $282 including postage and came via Express Post the next day! They threw in a 2GB SD card too.

I highly recommend the GoPro Suction mount that is part of the Motor sports upgrade, never had any problems with one coming loose and is adjustable every which way.

Nice bit of engineering there Casso, that was actually what i used before the factory sucker became available .... my brother is a glazier in Melb ...hahaha

Hey Rambo,

got your email mate. where can I get the individual flat base mounts from that come with the helmet kit?

Casso - $282 that is a good deal but sucks that online stores are undercutting the brick & mortar retailers. That's somewhere I do not want to go. All prices RRP as per distributor in my books.

If the Aussie Distributor doesn't have them, get a few guys together and order a few from here gopro.com/en/au/ bottom of the page, save on shipping that way. But give the Aussie Distribs. a go first. Suction mount $29.99 Yankee dollars + shipping each

Just re-read you post you mean the quick release mounts? Same place $19.99 grab bag of goodies gets you a selection.

Just opened mine (present). Good old Santa! I got a heap of spare parts plus the suction mount. So I'm stoked! Will be great for snowboarding as well. Best bit is the wife is going to play golf in the morning which means I get to go for a surf.

I will give the gopro wide a run and post a vid soon. Hopefully Xmas night.

p.s. Support local distribution where possible

Thanks Simon.. This arvo I asked the guys at SHQ to order one in for me because I know they sell Hero cameras..

I'm thinking a late Chrissy present to myself..

If I don't have any luck with them I'll drop you a line.

Merry Christmas and thanks for the info..

They look like a great little camera..I should be able to use it on my motor bike also.

A little test vid from this session. Just one wave:

If you click on it and go into YouTube, you can "watch it in high quality".

Here's my first wave with the sucker cam. Waves were crap with lots of fat sections, people everywhere and lots of paddling but was a fun day. (Crunchies for those that now it)

I'm using the GoPro Wide with the black sucker attachment pictured above.

I was amazed how well the Oxbow 9'6" kept it's momentum and stayed on the wave. Sure I had to paddle hard but at times there was barely a wave.

Hopefully some quality wave footage to come soon.

Good stuff Bnaccas. It's great to finally see someone else riding the Oxbow 9'6". I'm finding it holds momentum and glides along on the smallest of waves too. A great board.

Those waves might be really small but sooo long - looks like fun.

Nice! Im really liking this gopro wide camera.
something I noticed was your top hand was on the paddle shaft and not the handle.
Is the paddle too long?
Just curious?

Yeah I noticed that. I didn't even know i did it. Na paddle feels perfect. Funny seeing yaself surf though.
I surfed yesterday and wasn't doing it but waves were bigger. Maybe I was just cruising. Not sure??? I'll be surfing my forehand this arvo so might be different.

On my backhand I tend to not use the paddle as much to help turn which I'm trying to fix. Also I noticed when I'm surfing I tend to really get down lower than if I was just paddling. Or...it could just be a quick change of hands and I was too lazy to get on the end of the paddle.

Good one Bnaccas ..you always get those surf school kids in that middle section before the reform..and on a good swell it's such a great wave and so long.

See ya there on the 17th when SHQ have their next demo surf day.

Great footage Bnaccas. Really like the shots the gopro makes. You do get quite a long ride at Crunchies, even if you have to work a bit, liked the bit in the middle with the guy poking his head over the wave.

I got a gopro hero3 for xmas. Seeing it was the wrist band type I picked up a expansion kit today. Has anyone had any experience with the 3M double sided tape the fittings use. Is it strong enough to do the job in say chest high surf ?

I rekon the 3M tape would work, especially with that attachment the camera sits a lot closer to the board. It would be super easy as you could just slide the camera on and off. 3M tape is pretty damn good. BUT....if it doesn't work?

Yeah Im thinking of putting a fluoro foam wrap around the base for just that reason. Hopefully it will give it enough flotation.

I haven't tried in salt water but it almost floats in fresh. Wouldn't need much float to keep it from sinking.
