Yeah there might be a spot for it a new building sport with some good fittness benifts as well, Hurts a bit more when you fall of but still great fun.. let see how many people get in to. My feeling is give it a month and see if the numbers grow if it grow like SUPin then for sure a Street SUP section would be sick.

Found this on the website.

"The Kahuna Big Stick Classic is a solid oval shaped wooded shaft with a rounded T-grip handle and stationary rubber wheels that grip the pavement and deliver the power of the stroke."

Might have to make one. I've already got a long skateboard.

He who has the most toys wins!

Maybe it will keep the crowd down in the water?

I would rather be on the water! Too many bones to break in the SUP demographic - 40 plus but getting fitter (OK I'm 50 plus)

Hmmm... ...when, exactly would you do this?
If there are good waves we surf, when they are poor we SUP, when it's flat we SUP, when it's windy we windsurf.
When it's offshore and strong we do this.

So when are we supposed to fit this one in?

On a serious note - riding UK roads is a receipe for early death - pot holes and insane traffic.

Wouldn't it be better to use one of these?
So when you fall off & bust your leg at least you can hobble home

(I can make one in carbon fiber for those who want performance)

When you can't get to the water... going to work, going to school, walking the dog, going down the street for a pizza... Street SUP it there.

Ride hard and carry a Big Stick

Hmmm, maybe more sk8er related than sup related, who in the 40 + bracket would be seen sk8ing in your street.

Sure if your that desperate go for it but as I said who in the 40 bracket rolls out the ska8board when theres now swell.

I don't think it's for me, I'd much rather skateboard (hence the mini ramp in my backyard)

If going for a cruise along the beach a longboard would do the trick and you'd have your hands free to talk on ya iPhone and sip ya Latte'.

I'm just being stupid but I'm sure some people would get right into it.

I just don't like 'em. But thats just me.

Scooters are annoying as well but ripsticks are a fad that will pass. Scooters might be here for a while.

I bought a Carveboard and Kahuna Big Stick about 6 mths ago.
They are a lot of fun and it really DOES feel like you're on a board on the water. Why do we do it?
1. Coz we live about 2 1/2 hrs from the surf
2. Coz it is another toy to have fun on PLUS it adds another set of skills that feed into other things I like to do.
So whats it like?
To get the max out of it, you need a nice piece of bitumen with a slope of some kind (not too much)
Then you can carve and weave from kerb to kerb, use the stick like a paddle (they are stationary high density rubber disks that dont roll like a wheel) They are stationary so you can grip the road with them to slow you down or throw body weight on.
I am 49 years old, and I just love the cruisy feeling and the fact that I get to feel like I'm surfing when I'm not, and the core workout (plus the walk back up the hill) is great for fitness.
What have I learnt?
Take any suburban street on a lazy weekend afternoon, and you can carve up their streetscape for hours and hardly see a living soul, and especially NOT kids. Where are they? Inside? Cars in driveways and on the kerb but only once have I had a nice chat with the neighbourhood kids while we skate together....its so quiet its a little spooky.

I would do it. Dont really windsurf and not that close to the waves. Logistics of it beats the hell out of dealing with a 9'+ board too. Could chuck this gear in your car boot, hallway even!

/Not sure its ready for its own forum though, but like the others say, give it time and see what develops

Been doing it for almost a year with both the carveboard and a regular skateboard. The carveboard is used on hills and really does help SUP skills. We use the skateboard on flatlands and usually do about 7 miles a week. It is pretty fun but be careful because injuries can happen so safety gear is mandatory. Gay or not it is something different to do. Different stokes for different folks.

Aloha
