I had a chance today to ride The 6'6" X 30" Impossible.
Quad Rounded Pin Tail.
What a concept.
Looks like a Sasquatch Shoe.
Blunt nose with full rails up front, tapering back.
I'm at 185 pounds today with shoulder to head high waves.
You have got to be right in the spot to catch the wave.
No gliding in for me, you must place yourself in position right where the wave pitches.
With the Quad set up it is real fishy and requires some finesse
to work it down the line. I think there will be some tweeking to this design
that will make it really work! Wish I had it longer so I could experiment with
fins to get more drive out of it. Overall I was quite surprised with it's performance
and stability.

Rock On!

I had a chance to have a go on one the other day and agree 100% with your observations.

There is basically no glide 1-2 paddles max and you start heading at a 90 degree angle.

Actually surpirsed how stable it was and that i could stand on it and I am 90kgs 186cm.

Not the type of board for me but some better surfers out there may like it.

Thanks for that - looks a little short for me!

Send us some action shots when you get a chance - I imagine its a lot of fun once its up and riding - just like a normal short board....although you have paddle in yr hands.

Hey Reagan,

That's not the baby you rode the other day, I was actually out on the 7'4 x 32 (mini junior whopper). This model is not even in the brochure or on the website but a new addition to the range.

I don't think the 6'6 would stay afloat with your kg's

Cheers,

Marco

My Canadian mate sends me all his jokes.... Some of their Native Indian Jokes are exactly the same as some Aboriginal Jokes....
Canadian Provinces, West to East are;
BC (British Columbia), Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Terra Nova, and up north is North West Territories & Yukon.

In Aussie Terms.... a Sasquatch Shoe, is a Moccasin (I believe) !!

You can even try making them at home with the kids !!!

watched the yankie grommet in the photo sean poyntner rippin the crap outta nationals at noosa on that thing

man he rammed in some tight turns on it

and the board looks funny as up close just looks like they snapped an 11'2 in half and reshaped a nose onto the tail section into a board

Just my opinion, but if a person wants to go that short on a SUP, you might as well ride a shortboard!!!

I saw Sean ride the board in Noosa and like Doggie said he rips on it. I think the 6.6 is a great option for the lighter crew to have a crack on to push the boundaries. The board is much more refined than the 7.2 SB which IMO was exactly the same as the 7.2 windsurfer.

If you have had a back injury and cant get the explosive paddle to take off why shouldnt you ride a 6'6 it maybe your only option to get the sort of wave you like to ride?

There are lots of customs now popping up in the 7.8 to 8.10 range and people are handling them really well.

I was surprised at the length of the boards ridden at the Vicco Titles the shortest in the mens was 8.10 and most over 9.0

I would imagine in QLD & NSW all but the big bruddahs will be on 8.8 ish HP.

In 12mths I believe 8.10 will be considered long for comp surfing.

Completely agree that people can ride if they like but it just seems to me to go this short would surely take away all of the things that I personally really enjoy about riding a Stand Up.

Like many shortboarders I also tried to go down the path of short and wide boards via the fish thing and found that for me, a drivey board that created speed was they way for me to get my fat butt into the kooky half turns that I am capable of. A fish did not allow this. It was loose laterally but not drivey and the way it sits on top of the water better for surfing horizontally rather than as close to vertically as I can go.

Short and wide SUP will suffer the same fate for me I believe, while some people may love them I always prefer a board that can drive down the line and provide the momentum for me to have a few options. Not saying people can not achieve this on these boards, just that I can't.

The best thing about SUP for me is also riding waves that I can't or wouldnt bother with on my shortboard, this kind of board loses that element.
