Wondering if anyone has a view on the star touch grip on the Carbon Star-board SUP's....do you feel extra 'grip' would be an extra protection zone from heal dents / compressions or merely added comfort on your feet and a further 'non slip' buffer ?

I've read that some find the 'star touch' can be slippery but my piss weak surf style will be fine as I rarely go on edge.

I'm picking up a new Carbon tmrw and am unsure whether to spend the extra on deck grip or leave 'as is'......would the carbon deck be likely to dent / compress you think ?

Any info appreciated.

not sure about the grip on the carbon boards, but have heard some people complaining about the lack of grip on some of their boards, some people like it, some don't, i spose just give it a try and if you like it you've saved money on having to buy grip, if not wack some grip on there,

are you getting a widepoint?

I'd put a grip on it. I've got the bluetouch finish on a converse from a couple of years ago and I love the feel of not having a pad. But the grip does seem to either wear off or get slippery over time. Also the finish is abrasive to other bodyparts such as your forearms etc. It never worried me but other people that borrow the board complain about it and the kids winged like buggery about the sandpaper grip when I put them on the front. Finally, you can definetly see the foot indentations on my board. Carbon finish may be a bit tougher though.

I've got the Whopper with the startouch finish. I bought the deck pad but have only used certain parts of it. I put down two sections for where I stand for a bit of comfort more than anything. I also used the tail pad. I then cut up a few pieces and placed them over the top of the fins for reference. The only thing I have had trouble with is prone paddling out through a wave with the paddle under my chest,if you don't keep the pressure on the paddle then it slids out real easy compared to having deck grip. The best thing about the carbon boards is the low weight. Try to keep it that way and use deck grip only in spots where you really need to.
