This was posted on SEPA Hawaii, the image is from a wood carved engraving that was used to print Harpers Mag.


American Indian stand up paddle racing in 1874? Yes, there is nothing new under the sun as this wood cut engraving print from 130 years ago shows. This sketch of an American Indian canoe race features two men stand up paddle racing in canoes while many onlookers in canoes fire their guns in celebration. This illustration is from Harper's Weekly magazine published in June 1874.
