One of my kitesurfing buddies sent me a link to this article on a new type of kite that has been designed for Stand Up Paddleboards. Its a very large kite; 17m, and is a 2 line design. Apparently its meant for low winds in the 5-15 mph range.

Theres an article about it in the latest online kite magazine www.iksurfmag.com/issue22/ (pg 75)

Here's more kites that are made just for SUP boards.. source.f-onekites.com/ .. I was looking at this the other day.

I have an old 16 mtr kite that I've been meaning to try for ages.

17M bugger all depower, Oh NOOO carnage

Edit, Make that NO depower hmm I would like to own one though It would have to be cheap as its very limited, And i would nned to have a real crap day to even consider taking a 17m kite out.

ya, ive tried it, with my old two line foils.. it works, sort of, and its kinda fun to try, a little, on desperate days...
but cant see why anyone would spend that kind of money on a kite like that, for doing that. ??

Has anyone tried a small trainer kite on their SUP?

I've never used a kite and been thinking of giving it a go but don't have a clue

ive had a few cracks at it on a 19m and 9m

it friggin kills ya legs edging hard on a sup to stay upwind when the wind is too light

but gets you on the water while you wait for the wind to finally kick in

go read the thread on the kite forum

Kiting with a big board is loads of fun. I learned on a 9' mal with a 4m foil. I have a 7'3" quad superfish and that thing can match a raceboard for upwind and is way more fun downwind.

Dunno if I would spend $1500 on a purpose built 17m kite for SUP kiting. A small kite is easy to fly and I've already got one.

I would be a bit worried about getting powered up with a kite and a SUP. Not sure the board would handle the edging load. Think of the load of doing a hard bottom turn and maintaining that position for 10-15 minutes at a time.
