Just spent a week with the family down at Margaret River. Paddled each day at Gracetown which was magic. There was a bit of swell the first day so did the early and got Huzzas to myself for nearly an hour. Once it started to get crowded I paddled over to the middle of the bay where there were 4 or 5 locals on sup's. There were some nice waves coming through and these guys were carving them up! They were very friendly and encouraging and were calling me onto waves rather than off them. Jimmy Lewis seems to be the weapon of choice down here and these guys sure know how to handle them.
I caught up with Courts and Marty from Supsurf Australia. These guys are great blokes and if anyone is in the area these guys are extremely friendly and helpful and well worth looking up. I went down to their factory in Margaret River where they had a couple of very nice looking new 8'10'' and 9'2'' (I think!) boards. The new range of Jimmy Lewis boards look awesome. Last time I looked there were some photos of the new range on the Supsurf Australia website
There are some great waves down in this part of the world but what amazed me most was the great feeling amongst the sup community down there. I learned heaps chatting to these blokes but even more watching them. I Can't wait to get down again!

Unfortunately I don't have a waterproof camera and I spent more time on the water (or in it!) than taking pictures of it.
For a change, I did I cruisy paddle up margaret river which was great. I'd never done a flat water paddle before and found it very peaceful and relaxing. I thought of you DJ as it would have been a perfect time to do one of your photographic essays. I think I may have even been wearing the old crocs as it was a bit of a walk to the water on the hot ground.
Dj you'll have to make a trip to the part of the world before you hang up the paddle. Margaret River and the surrounding areas is absolute magic!!

Yeah I certainly miss that feeling with the general surfing population on the Gold Coast but you always get a Gidday from another Supper.

Did you get any shots of the guys on the Jimmys , I would love to take a Sup trip to West Oz sounds pretty nice.

Hey windy, how's things?
I didn't take the homemader but I have tried it up here. Its probably a little long for the waves for me, and its the sort of paddle that you really have to muscle if you know what I mean. All grunt and not a lot of finesse. I was fortunate to be able to borrow a C4 paddle while I was down there which was very nice. No comparison with my cheap alloy. It had heaps more drive so I wasn't falling off the backs of waves and I also found that I was able to take off much later on waves with 1 or 2 quick strokes which I found hard with the cheapy.
So I am now looking at my options in purchasing a new paddle.

Hey scotty, sure dont mind you asking, after all we are selling it Its right near the Boranup Karri forrest & hamelin Bay at Karridale, Its approx 10 acres with a renovated farm house 5 ks as the crow flies from one of Australias best beach breaks Boranup.
You can hear Boranup breaking when its 4ft or bigger ( most of the time ).

We originally had it on the market for 8oo we have since dropped it to 7oo.
Its with Margaret River Real Estate, if any one is keen, you could find out more off one of the ereas best sub riders, Mitch Thorson or Barry Granville.

is it supable Brooko???

i had a paddle up to chill out and watch the shortboards,,, the take off looks MAD, super steep and limited space ,, saw a lot of freefalls ... was a big day though, if u did make it though , it would have been a dream wave.

could go wide on the Fat, then paddle intowards it ,, wave would have to be empty other wise u would go on the local hit list

ps looking for some accom over long easter weekend?? do u wanna rent it out?

Hey windy we just rented the place out on a 3 month contract, so cant help you out there Yeah south point is def ridable but as you say its always mega crowded

I would only go out there if there was no crowd (rare) or you know what you are doing and a competent surfer, It would be a great wave to tear apart on a sub

If south point is working and is super crowded there are plenty of other places to go.
Im thinking of one similar to south point
