Having a surf at my local point this morning, dead low tide about 5- 6 foot (on the macho scale) - sitting a bit deep with another fella - feeling a bit bullet proof after the weekend

Got a set wave that developed an ugly step in it right over the suck rock and got flipped so I kicked board away from me and the lip must have landed right on the center of it [}:)] Buggar!!

This thing was so solid too, tonnes of glass. If I ever make another one it will hav a carbon stringer cut into it for the full length of the board.

You have to love the way the ocean will kick your @rse when you least expect it - at least it wasn't my back!

That's a shame Goatie , thats why when I got my big girl made it has a double stringer.

Feel your pain Goatie. Think of it as taking a hit for SUP riders everywhere - that takeoff sounds like you might have racked up some respect points from the rest of the lineup.

Thanks Guys!

That double stringer poly looks the go for a Gun, Rob. What blank would you use though? Or is it eps with a stringer glued in?

Serious bummer !

In my opinion, you definately want stingers in the big wave boards. It adds weight, so what !! You need the strength.

The board in my logo/avatar is actually a triple stringer. I have another normal surfboard gun with a 1/2 inch red hardwood stringer.

Big waves are about 'point and shoot and hope' rather than worrying about 'swing weight from stringers' !!

Totally agree, have a 6'10 Aloha with a 1/4" redwood stringer. Just a bloody hassle when you're making it yourself.

Hey Hilly, thanks for the offer mate very generous but I wouldn't be game to borrow someones' SUP like that - unless it was AA's....LOL

Hey Phil, I will probably fix it at some stage, have done heaps of shorties and a couple of goats with pretty good results, bit of a pain of a job though[}:)]

No good goatman, had two of my boards come across a similar fate recently, both repaired now, although i did add another snapped 8mm leash to my broken collection this morning.
Do you reckon the stringer will make much of a difference ,was speaking to someone recently about this and it seems with the volume of the sup boards they won't penetrate the water surface like say a shortboard would in a wipeout so their just sitting there and take the full force of the wave,
anyway hope it repairs well,

Cheers.

maybe a full carbon inlay would be better than a stringer?
or dont fall off

Your mate was sitting about 30 meters further on the shoulder I reckon[}:)] Only me and my old neighbour sitting next to first rock.

Hey Dogman I'll fix her up just so you can snap it mate

I think if you are going to push the boundaries you need timber stingers , the only sups I have snapped have been stringerless (3 off) got some new boards on the way , all will have timber.

good luck for your new board rob
Last week I snapped my green 9'10 I had in PNG
it had a stringer in it + extra glass + extra glass again just on the rail just in case...
Did'nt make any difference, it snapped.
What else can you do? I ordered exactly the same...
What you need is luck!

1 cubic metre of water = 1 tonne - go figure on the amount of water in sizeable waves-pretty hard to make a board that'll be unbreakable AND one you'd wanna' surf.

Commiserations-don't bother wasting the time and energy repairing-go for a MKII-onward and upward.....
