If you havent tried OC as cross training give it a go. Simondo and Kristi joined the Torquay OC Club today for a paddle and both had a blast.

Great cross training for SUP and lots of fun.

At 43 foot and 300ish kg an OC6 is a big ass boat, but they do get up and go.

With stroke rates of 60 its a serious work out for sure.

Great shots - the first is a beauty and the last one, the look on her face screams 'get me off now' !

Thanks for sharing - crystal clear and skyline stunning.

Hey SA,

Kristi and Simon had a ball.

The look on Kristi's face is concentration, she said it was hard to ensure she kept up the right stroke rate and the others all follow whoever is in seat one.

Lots to think about in a 6man boat.

Happy to sit on the beach and watch.

Great pics Phil. It really is a great sport, so much fun.

Are the PFD's mandatory to be actually worn down there?

I am still grinning from our session on Wed morning. Coming back through the Alley on the way home we took off behind the Alley rock and ran the wave the whole way through the Alley and past the end of the rock wall way up the mouth. I don't know exact distance but if you know the Alley it's as far as you can possibly go as we ended up inside the estuary.

In 25 years of surfing it was quite possibly one of the best waves I have ever had.

Great work CMC!

Yes, vests are mandatory I believe. But only "type 1" canister/self inflating. At least I'm pretty sure Jeanette mentioned they are mandatory, and that is why we have them on.

PS - I was telling Phill about my delusional thoughts of paddling an OC6 from Torquay to Sorrento next year, to do the Great Peninsula Paddle in an OC6! Maybe tow it to Queenscliff, and paddle it over from there! Vaguely 10km, + 3km race, + 7km home (+/- wind and current).

(17 feet is not big enough for me ! )
(Pic 2 - paddles in the rack, like pool cues in the rack!)

Thanks CMC,

It does look like a fun sport and great cross training.

I was surprised how fast a 6man paddles, they shot out of site in no time.

The PFDs arnt mandatory, however everone is pretty safety conscious at the moment. They weigh nothing and definitely dont get in the way so I cant see any problems at all.

I believe at the OC Nationals PFDs were mandatory though.

Kristi wants to try an OC1 next week, that might be entertaining.

We have to carry jackets in the boat but don't have to wear them. Oc6 paddling is great fun and catching waves in an 0c6 is a real blast.
Look at the top sup paddlers in the bop (Danny Ching and Trav) and what their background is and you'll realise how beneficial outrigger training is to sup paddling.

Stroke rate of 60 ? I used to paddle in a good team and we were never that low , that is also an older design boat that is rigged poorly BTW , the ama(outrigger float) is too high at the back IMO and the canoe is leaning in to it therefore making unnecessary drag in such calm conditions.

Great vid and looks like heaps of fun. Apparently Barts (he posts here occasionally) is in the canoe with Todd Bradley and others.

Do they wear leggies on those things?...

Check out Kelly Slater in the front seat of the OC4 at the 50 sec mark of this vid.. and at the 40 sec mark in the second vid.

BTW.. It's due for release in a couple of weeks for those who missed it at IMAX.

Awesome everyone.

CMC, that OC4 vid is sweet! Best thing is, I know a few competent paddlers, and an OC4 is arriving soon, and there are some very ridable fullish waves not very far from the Outrigger Club !!

I haven't seen a steering paddle that big around the club yet though !! I will ask tomorrow night.

Yeah it is great, did you watch the Pa'a eono hoe footage as well? Trav Grant is in #4 in the winning boat the green and black one. V2 of that one has been tested on the Goldy in the last week.

JUST CAUGHT MY FIRST WAVE IN AN OC6 !!!

Nice swell running off Point Danger, and we got a really nice one. About 2m high rolling ground swell, not breaking, but we were scooting along !! Easily latched onto it....

I'm still keen to bring an OC6 crew over to The Great Peninsula Paddle in 2012. I think we'll get line honours too !!

Happy Days people !!

(CMC, I haven't watched the "tv" link yet, but I will!)

. You need to watch this, the best ever footage of 6 man paddling ever!

Yeeeeew, nice one Simon.

First Marathon for the season this weekend, can't wait. Only 12k so more of a sprint. If you get the chance to race with them do it.

I'm stoked you're excited by it.

Not much beat's this one guys. rambos-locker.blogspot.com/2007/05/molokai-hoe-bump.html

This was an Ocean runner, not a swell on a reef.
What's more Sue Sheard took this in 1996
