I am using the Future Fins Classic 10" in my Naish 11'6". This gave a significant improvent in the surf for a slight loss of stability while paddling. What fins are others using for single fin boards?
I changed after a couple of months and even though I could feel the difference in stability it was never a problem. After changing the fin the board was easier to turn both on flat water and in the surf. I tried the old fin a couple of months ago to see if the difference was as great as I remembered and I couldn't get the new fin back in fast enough.
Steve..thanks for the feedback about the fins..I've often thought about changing mine but have not found one that I like..I'd like one almost as big but a cutaway style with almost as much tip area but less area in the base of the fin.
Did you find with the smaller fin that the tail was a bit slidey?..Because the rails are so big the fin plays a bigger part of board controle..I've always liked as small a fin as I can get away with and turn more off the rail than the fin..but these big boards don't turn that well off the rail..You need to get way back and use the tail more to get it to turn.
I'm hoping the new 11'4" will turn better off the rail and not need to get way back to make it turn...we'll soon see because I'm getting one..I can't wait.
So...does the tail want to slide out with a smaller fin?
Took the plunge and dropped from 10 and a half inch down to 8 inch centre fin, but have taken the M3 side fins out and replaced with M5's. There was only ankle snappers yesterday arvo so paddled from home up to the alley to see what the tippyness was like. Not really any more tippy that I could notice but found have to get into proper surf stance much earlier on the wave board really does turn much more aggressively when on rail. Anyone else done similar ??
