When you watch the really fast guys paddle they lean forward for the reach but they also keep the nose up with their feet and also use the paddle angle to lift the nose of the board which gets it up on top of the water and running. The more lift, the closer to planing, the faster you go.
This bum leash lifts the tail when you lean against it in effect pushing the nose down making you slower I reckon. It also puts your body in the wrong position.
If this worked it would be from the nose where you sit back with your butt and then lean forward to paddle from the waist. This would be much more like the action in an outrigger canoe as you brace from the front with your legs. The nose leash would lift the nose and you could drive more off your legs with them forwards rather than back like this.
Maybe I just created the fastest addition to SUP. The sitting while your standing SUP.

Better idea is to throw the paddle away and put a sail on it
