As long as you can stay on your a lot better off on a SUP than a prone board. I was out on a SUP a few days back and could clearly see a little hammerhead dart under a prone surfer who did not even see it. It was a pretty cool view that shows you how oblivious some people are to what is going on around them.

I was also out Newcastle on a prone board and spotted what I thought was an 8' white cruising up the beach a few hours before Lenny got chomped down at Redhead. It was stalking along just behind the break. Gotta say I was stoked the water was clear that day. As soon as I pointed the shark out to the guy next to me it was like it got the vibe and swam south for an easier feed.

There are ****loads of sharks down around Torquay, but you should be fine around any other breaks in the country.
Actually, I saw a shark special on the telly the other day and there are record numbers of bull sharks in the rivers off the harbour so ... you're better off standing up than sitting down and dangling your legs down like yummy little meaty bites. Shark bites tend to occur at dawn, dusk and in murky water. Paddle with a friend and reduce the chances! If you go fishing on your SUP it's probably wise not to use the burley option. Don't piss in your wettie, they can smell it miles away. Don't **** in your wettie, that's just wrong.

Yeah OK, you got me. I think one guy was bitten at Winkie once ..... that's about it for my local breaks. Just trying to discourage the tourists. Also if I did the surf report every morning it would say "Dead flat, give it a miss."

I dont want to start a debate but the science states that there has not been an increase in shark numbers.

Its extremely unlikely that a shark will take any interest in you at all. They have much better things to do and we apparently taste like and dont have enough fat to make the meal worth the effort. Most attacks are liekly out of curiosity.

That said dont go looking for it.

End of the day you are far far far more likely to be kille din a car accident ont he way to the beach. If you still dont like those odds dont go out.

Are you saying I'm talking a whole lot of bullsh....ark? I was just talking to Science yesterday and he said there has been a dramatic increase in the male bullshark population in the harbour and surrounding waterways

They reckon you have more chance getting hit by lightning - but I don't buy that bullsh1t.

Being really farkn creeped out by sharks,

High litre board so to float high and stay near the middle, if ya get the gebbies whack the side of your board ( this works ) and master the art of the remount...remember that the gutter your aiming for, is where they are more likely to be found. After a term of poo stains in the boardies and a few sightings of the sharks crusing straight past the boogers, you'll have a mantra singing in your head..."we're not on the menu" this too works....kinda

Purely for safety reasons this is not a dolphin and it would probably be wise to avoid this situation if possible
