Hey Jodie for some runs that may work really well as they are close to the coast and you can keep a good eye on what is happening. You guys probably have access to a jet ski etc as well?
Where DJ and the guys normally do thier down winders St Kilda to Sandy is pretty much like your situation where it probably is possible to see the suppers with binoculars most of the time and raise the alarm early if required. That still need a land based support crew.
What people forget is Port Phillip Bay is huge and a change of wind direction can mean down the coast for 10kms can turn into 3 or 4 times that distance.
The bay also in SW conditions does not produce open ocean style runners, its more like short sharp steeper wind chop, its is also very shallow so a change in wind strength or direction can rapidly cause unforeseen problems.
Add in the shipping channels with maybe 25+ vessels a day not running to schedule due to tides waiting for pilots etc and its fun and games.
If you read back through the multiple threads there doesnt appear to be much of well next time we would do this or next time we would do that!
Maybe thats due to legal advice.
1) It would be interesting to see what breezers believe should be the minimum to take with them on a DW on Port Phillip after DJ's adventure?
2) What breezers think about planning DW across the shipping channel in future?
