Yesturday was a treat. Not many waves breaking anywhere on the northern beaches. In fact, after driving from Trigg to Mullaloo, the only spot breaking bigger than knee high, was Mettams.
It was like the SUP club had come out of hiding. It was great to see about 7/8 SUP surfers dominating the line up.
The handfull of longboarders were not happy campers at all.
In saying that, and going along with the other thread on ethics, we all hung back on the shoulder and gave the grumpy old men room.
We also started to mingle in with them but they didnt really want to talk to us. Their loss.
One old boy on the yellow Mctavish even told me I wasnt gonna get onto a wave we were both paddling for. You should have seen his face, and heard his potty mouth, when the wave picked me up on my trusty Starboard 11'2 and he was still paddling his ring off!
We shared many waves, kept our distance, let many set waves pass us by while hooting, laughing and smiling the whole time doing it.
It was good to swap boards with Louie. Thanks mate. Hope we can surf together again soon.
And to the bloke on Millers old Naish, sorry for going off at you when you crashed into my board. It was good to see your young bloke ripping it up on his Starboard 9'8.
And not to mention Gazza on the Sport Tech 11'2 giving the place a good flogging. It was his second time on a SUP board and it looked like he had been doing it for months! So when is the big purchase? Hehehe.
All up the vibe was great and we got people educated and to loosen up and respect fellow wave lovers no matter what we use.
I was talking to Hawkie after about how lucky we are in this country. There are people around the world who are starving or killing each other. We dont need to fight over a metro wave in Perth!? We are blessed.
