Tweed Coast Outriggers Presents SQ OC1 / OC2 Race Series
Race 2 - 11th September 2010

Race Program - General Information
Welcome to the second race of the 2010 South Queensland Zone OC1 / OC2 race series.

As always our sport needs to showcase its advantages to a wider community so TCO along with help from members of the Ballina club have decided to put our skills to the test with a new & challenging venue at Ballina. For those not familiar with the Richmond River bar area, on most days there is a sizeable swell running through to the Missingham Bridge about a kilometre inside the river entrance. This will feature in both the long & short courses.

The regatta venue is the park immediately to the South West of the Missingham Bridge on Kingsford Smith Dr. where ample parking is available. Adjacent to this area is a large sand spit that will become the canoe rigging & marshalling area. Coffee and BBQ will be available from 7.00am.

PLEASE NOTE THAT BETWEEN THE PARKING AREA & THE SAND SPIT IS A PUBLIC WALK/CYCLE WAY THAT HAS RIGHT OF WAY AT ALL TIMES.

With safety as the main consideration & having taken advice from Local Rescue & Coast Guard services & with HIGH TIDE at approx 10.30 the Long course will be run first with briefing at 8.00am & race start at 9.00am. This will enable competitors to proceed to the start line off Lighthouse Beach south of the surf club.

The LC will proceed to a buoy north of Skennars Head & then return to finish at the sand spit, a total of approx 15 kms.

The Short course briefing will be at 12.30am with a start at 12.45am off the sand spit. Depending on conditions at the time the course could run north , parallel with the bridge then out along the north wall towards the VMR tower & then a turn down river towards the vehicle ferry returning back past the Ballina town area to the finish line at the sand spit. Approx length 8 kilometres.

As with any regatta, conditions on the day will determine the final course directions.

* The organisers reserve the right to amend the event program and courses due to adverse weather conditions, number of nominations or unforeseen circumstances at any time. All competitors are to comply with AOCRA Regatta Rules and all other regulations, as outlined at www.aocra.com.au

REGISTRATION
Registration (including non-AOCRA members) will be online via the AOCRA website and before the race day. All registration & briefing will take place at the official TCO tent at the north end of the parking area. All paddlers must sign-in, confirming their registration & canoe number for each race.

Any AOCRA members who are entering the ski paddle race should log in as an OC1 competitor and make a note at the bottom of their nomination sheet that they will be racing on a surf ski.

Any non-AOCRA paddlers who are entering in Ski have to pay and additional insurance fee on top of the race fee. The amount will be deducted when they nominate on line.

NOTE: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AS THERE WILL BE NO AOCRA COMPUTER ACCESS ON THE DAY AT THE REGATTA SITE, NOMINATIONS WILL CLOSE AT 12 NOON ON FRIDAY 10/9/10.

CANOE RIGGING AND CAR PARKING
Ample parking is available on Kingsford Smith Drive (just south of Missingham Bridge). Adjacent to this area is a large sand spit that will be the canoe rigging & marshalling area.

SAFETY
All paddlers must sign-in when confirming their registration and canoe number for each race. All registration and sign-in will take place at TCO's tent.

Leg ropes (one per canoe) and PFDs (one per paddler) are mandatory. If conditions are big, paddlers may be required to carry a spare blade. It is anticipated that NSW Waterways may be in the area during the time of the regatta and their recommendation is that PFDs are to be worn not attached to the canoe.
