Hey phil,
I know where you are coming from and we definitely share your disappointment. We put a lot of effort into creating a good setting for the event, with council permits, tents, flags, demo gear, lots of prizes, barbeque, fliers, banner ads, drinks, photographers, lifesaving and support boats etc. This is now the second time we have to cancel the race and believe me…it doesn’t feel good.
As a event organizer yourself, you would however appreciate it that we can’t send people on the water if there is a chance of thunderstorms.
So the choice was to either cancel on the day (which didn’t seem to go down that well last time) or cancel well in advance so people could reschedule their (long) weekend.
The post you are referring to are kindly posted by other breezers (incl DJ) who where just as hopeful as the rest of us that the weather would turn for the better. The last time I spoke to DJ was early in the week and at that stage the race was still al go.
However:
If you would have read DJ’s post carefully you would have noticed he didn’t say it would go ahead with “thunder”

“It's defiantly on again this Sunday (7th March).. rain.. hail.. or snow..”

Anyway it’s great to see that people are that passionate about the sport and SUP events in general. We will do our best to make the 28th the best SUP event possible.
It better be Glassy and Sunny !
Cheers Paul
