With the emphasis on racing 14' boards rather than unlimited, I had an old DC 16' with steering that just didn't sell on Seabreeze.

A great board but more suited to big Hawaii conditions than ours with the front one & 1/2 feet of the board always out the water. Think DC, Lacey and Alain amongst others owned it in the past.
So I decided to strip it back, removing the worn out deck pad strips and two coats of paint to find a full carbon board. A deep breath and i cut off off a foot off the front and back and shaped the nose back using a 9" angle grinder. I redid the new nose again with carbon but found it was too blunt and wide, pushing water so back to the angle grinder again.
This time i attached extra foam to round out the sides of the nose, adding extra volume to the top and base of the nose. A quick paddle and was impressed by the lack of noise and glide. Then the long process of sanding, spraying in two pack and fitting a new deck pad.

Next project maybe take an older white Javelin with a sunken deck to improve stability and painted Fanatic red to go faster.........

Tried this board before JT painted it and it was fast.
Excellent effort John, I reckon it will go faster with the Red paint work.

From Wikipedia

The Boeing 747SP is a modified version of the Boeing 747 jet airliner which was designed for ultra-long-range flights. The SP stands for "Shortened Plane"…….

JT, is the rumor true that it was one of your designs?

Hi Tony. Hope you're still looking after that Zone board. Just looked for a name so got Jet being "John's experimental type". Tha main thing is it really works given the basics from the master shaper DC were there already.
It's very stable, fast enough for 27" and cuts through the incomming waves easily. Also surfs well as a bonus.

Very cool John...great idea. Maybe I should give you my "unbought on Seabreeze" DC17' to turn into a 14' or better still a 12'6". Then could you bring it over here ?

you brought the board off me.

teatrea did a job on his old dc 17 which was like the old dc 16. he took a lot of the displacement out and made it more planning. it was a lot more stable and caught bumps in the ck mouth like nothing else i've been on. andrew, god bless him, did a awful job of it.

i believe some one from the mid coast with board building skills brought it and re did it

cheers

that is a radical conversion on the dc 16

So far loving the board, very stable and quick with the wind behind one. Probably over painted it in hindsite, two pack is heavy so may sand the bottom. With the deck pad and all, it's about 15kg and surfs really well too. Don't forget that DC shaped the board originally and the rounded rails really help with stability.
