I have done that for a year now and it's perfect.
Just need to go to your bike shop.....$7 will get you 2 paddles fully equiped
Or wait for an overpriced american patented product that will do the same job

I was thinking the same thing this afternoon, I have a couple of those in the shed. You can buy that HD foam in lengths too.

haha. i found the ski tilt could get me the grunt down. the guy from kenule paddles took up the idea but i haven't seen any thing yet.

i do like jimmy's handle. the lenght of it and the finger grips are what you need imo to bear down.

i did have this style in mind first up - quickshift, then i trailed a powder tool handle and then figured out forward tilt would be better.

i still think its is.

dj, weren't you one of my knockers back then when i posted this

hey rob, i was nervous about using this paddle in the 12 towers. actually tried to hide it, but that was my best result in a race- ninth against that field at my age despite being on a unlimited board

I reckon you should just use a paddle the way it's supposed to be used..

actually guys have told me the old outrigger paddles didn't have handles- so was that the right way there supposed to be used and handles are the wrong way

i reckon there is merit in mixing it up- gearing as jimmy said

I was thinking that I needed another gadget to make me faster, but then I realised I just had absolutely no technique at all. I always find it interesting that we look to elite athletes grab what they do and then expect it to work for us. I still reckon your average person is hard pressed to really tell the difference a lot of time. Just my two cents worth.

you know i doing training three times a week. we have some of the best paddlers in the world there. been doing this for a while now.

i thinks its about 65% technique and the rest fitness and apple.

if your / me/ them/us technique isn't good you/me/them /us are always going to be doing it harder.

imo there is not enough emphasis on technique. it also takes a lot of time to get it really good and its a bit like golf where you can go in and out of form

i've also noticed that most top paddlers wont give too much away

By that rationale we should all still be lying on our "surfboards" and paddling on our bellies.

No.. I just think there's a handle on the end for a reason..

Also 90% of the best paddlers don't ever drop their top hand down the shaft.

I can see why some paddlers do it (and i dont care or mind if they do) but IMO it's NQR ..

NQR is an argument of aesthetics. Once you get into aesthetics, then the old surfers' argument about SUP being sweepers comes into play. To many, SUP is NQR. Where you hold the paddle isn't relevant, and certainly less relevant with this new development from QB. There are now 2 handles... for a reason.

Lacey I reckon your right, although I think maybe its even more than 65%. I guess the point that I was making was that most people will paddle around and be quite happy, its only when you start getting into things like Time Trials and racing that technique becomes important. I have just started working on technique after 3 and a bit years of SUP. I was talking to one of the Kayak coaches down here and he was saying that its not unusual for someone to take months to change tiny bits of their stroke.

As to fitness, since I have stretched my stroke out and Im really engaging my major muscle groups and not just using my arms I notice that fitness is not quite as bigger an issue.

That is my experience glad to be told its not the way its supposed to be
