A big thank-you to all who participated in the Port Phillip Cup on Australia Day 26th of January 2010. Your participation resulted in about $1,000 being donated to the St Kilda Life Saving Club and St Kilda's Earthcare! We had a total of 128 people all up participating in all the events (plus the 7 live animals and the 8 stuffed one's!). Awesome result!

A big thanks in no particular order to Phill Page and family who did everything for us on the day, Revvin Kevin for assisting with safety on the water, LSD for bringing down his fantastic boards, all the SUPVIC boys who kept the snags and drinks coming, Danny and Sue for coming down (awesome people), all the guys from who came down the from the coast, Kristi for helping out with the women's demo, DJ for all the photos and vid he took and for all the guys and girls who participated in every event - fantastic effort.

It was actually Rich (Session) that helped out with the safety, I was slogging along in the middle of the race field.

Thanks everyone, especially the Sup Bus for a great day it was awesome to be a part of the Port Phillip cup.

Also thanks Sue for the Paddling tips and to the people who let me try their race boards.

Even though I'm no where near competitive in any of the SUP events I've entered I have always had a ball, the vibes been great and I have come away with some sort of prize each time.

If anyone is hesitant about getting involved in any of these type of SUP events or clubs around Australia because of fitness or skill level, dont be (obviously there are some events for elite paddlers or paddlers who have done the training), the people I have met at these things have all been very cool and very helpful, get amongst it.

Thanks guys for puting on a great event. Looking forward to watching it grow each year. I'm sure that you will get at least 100 people next year in the big race.

Nikita desperately wanted to go in the sprint so we let her and as she was heading out to the buoy she and DJ collided.

DJ helped Nikita back on the board and then they both continued on.

Nikita was so stoked that she out paddled DJ in the sprint.

DJ your a total gentleman and you made one little girls whole year!

Well done Cam in the 3km race - a great effort to beat the Lummers-machine. And with Danny Sheard only coming 4th - it must have been a red-hot field. What boards were these top 5 on?

Great fun event guys, congrats to all who made it happen.
A suggestion to improve the dash for cash would be to do age catagories, particularly with the kids, as they are the future of the sport. A number of kids went in the dash for cash even though they had no chance of a prize.... it would have made their day if they had some reward for their great efforts.

I was surprised to see all the younger crew front up for the race and would also like to see a category to encourage and cater for them.Will have to have a chat with the organisers of future events,

The other thing I thought of was to draw the teams for the relay. All the names of competitors go into a hat (boys in 1 hat and girls in the other). Organisers draw out 3 guys and then 1 girl to make up a team. (and maybe 1 junior).

This would eliminate the stacking of teams and make the event possibly more even, more exciting and more social as competitors get to meet their team mates.

Just a suggestion...
