Today we paddled down the Yarra through the city to the Boltie Bridge where we waited for Mark Webber to drive his RB7 F1 car over the bridge to the docklands.

We all wore PFD's because we live in the Nanny State.

Tim was on his 14' SurfRace.. Paul was on his K15 and Con was on his 12'6" Pin.

The sun was shining and the water was glassy.. .. and very brown..

It was a very high tide and some bridges were very low to paddle under.

Getting close to the Boltie Bridge.

There's the Boltie bridge with the two tall.. er.. things.

Looking up at those tall.. things.. makes you feel a bit dizzy.

Under the bridge and waiting for the Vrrrrrrrrrrooooooom!

Soon there were helicopters everywhere and they were louder than the F1 car.

We couldn't see a thing so we headed over to the Red Bull area in the Docklands.

More pics soon.

We headed backinto the sun and into the Docklands area.

We could see the big RedBull blow up thingie so we stopped off to check it out.

We thought this was Port Security or the terrorist Police coming in after us but they turned out to be paramedic's that were there in case Mark Webber drove his F1 car off the bridge and into the water.. Really.

There's the big blow up RedBull thing.

There were some cool RedBull cars there.. I liked this old RangeRover.. or whatever it was.. Great flip top sunroof.

Great looking rally car with awesome wheels.

This was the RedBull car that I wanted to see.

Then it was time to meet Mark.. I was temped to get him to sign my Kialoa paddle.

The RedBull girls.

We headed back to the water.. after a hot dog and ice cream.

Tim and Con headed back and Paul and I paddled over to check out the Draggon boats.

They were pretty cool and very interested in out SUP's like they've never seen one before.

Paul and I cruised through the Docklands marina and headed back to the Yarra.

We stopped off at Crown on the way back for a coke.

Back on the Yarra and heading back through the city.

Back and the cars and a couple of pics of Paul's PT Cruiser.

That's about it for my pics.. It was great to meet Mark Webber..

The Red Bull girl beside you had great cans. Nice and chilled they were. And a choice of sugar or sugar free.

Mike I've sussed out most PFD's on the market and find the 'Ultra' (Pinnacle) the best.. Get the largest size because the shoulder straps are longer and you can wear it nice and low and not up under your armpits like most of them.. The cost about $140.. and most of us buy them from 'Canoes Plus' in Kew.

Guys, if you're only wearing one to satisfy the rules, try a bumbag type, available through Whitworths marine and the like. You don't even know you have it on, and should you ever really need it, it does the trick. Popular in Outrigger circles, where we are governed by the same rules, and a standard PFD makes it almost impossible to paddle, and presents a huge hazard for anyone trying to get back into the canoe.

Are those the gas cannister models? I've heard you don't want to fall and land on one of those things.

I have one of the bum-bag types (see pic) and they are good but the bigger normal PFD can be seen by the Water Police from a distance.

Plus if you fall onto your board you don't end up with a busted rib ( like Jonathan did ) from the metal cartrige cylinder..

DJ, I'm sure the water police would see you and your bum bag if that's the pose you were directing at them.
