Must have been scary to live through the fires. I am lucky to come down after they happened. I know people who were not so lucky. A big thank you to Lurch for saving the camp site. Please donate if you can lots of work needed down here. Still is gods country counting the years until I can move here permanently like Greenroom.

A couple of snaps with devastation in the background.

Lids on the river

Greenroom working hard on his new small sb with daughter (board looks very nice)

I had a surf at Grunters the day before it swept through. Pretty surreal looking at all the pictures of the places we stayed and visited. Very sad but the strong community spirit will prevail i'm sure.

Is that Greenroon in that last pic sitting in that orange/red Starboard with the double ended paddle with the yellow blades?

Can't be a Naish.. They only make boards that look like boards .. and nothing that looks like a boat.. .. Sure it's not a new model K15..

Ha cool pics Hilly. It was hard work with my daughter on my 8'5 x 29 with me. Good fun.
The landscape in the area has definately changed. I have a few photos on my phone of my brothers house in Kilcarnup. Well what is left of it. Will post some up later.
We love it down here and cant wait until you make the move too. Miller is moving in a few weeks.
See you next week

I can tell you it was scary to live through. One of the gnarliest days as a Volly Fire Fighter I've ever had. My mate, a fellow SUP'er and Firie was down on the beach with almost 50 people - they were calm in the face of it so it kept everyone else calm. Almost became a crispy up next to the resort when the fire gave our truck a good working over. I haven't been back as I'm up at work but plan a bit of a trip in Jan/Feb as they'll only get back on their feet if people keep supporting them and spending the tourist dollars down there. I for one will be visiting a few houses that we defended. As we saved the surf shop I might just pop in there too!

Did that big house just around the corner on the river survive?

No. Its called Walcliffe House. It survived the fire on Wednesday but was lost on the Thursday. When it got too windy for the helicopters and planes we knew we were in the middle of a bit of something pretty bad!

The WA Government was approached for a $900k budget to advertise that the area is still open and needs visitations to get back on its feet, to be spent on radio, press, tv, online etc. They approved half of it. Make of that what you will.
