Hey Guys,

Did a fun time trail on friday night with the pacifica guys. Just a triangle course, and a small turn out for the first one, but had a great feel. So try to get down there for the next one on the 12th. Kev's running some races too over Nov, finishing up with the Coffs race.

Good to support these guys as they are DW frothers, great guys and it would be good to build some momentum in the DW culture around here. Anyway details below boys and girls. Get amongst it..

Cheers, Pete

Thats great looks like a fun race. But it says $45 to enter so what do the paddlers get in return interested to know

those shots are from the fortnightly time trail. entry to that one is $10 or $20 if your not a NSW paddler member.

They have some sponsors on board, I am not sure of the placement prizes. Will find out...

Thanks for the positive publicity Pete.
We are putting on a 3 race series of (hopefully) downwind races in order to promote the sport and of course have some fun.
@Downwinder If its the first race youve done with us you will receive a Pacifica cap at the start and a drink bottle at the end as well as free food and drinks post race, there are also prizes for 1st 2nd and 3rd such as Hinano paddling tops etc. but we have decided to give 3 BIG prizes ie, return airfares to Hawaii so that some local paddlers can go over and compete in some of the primo events.
There is a lucky draw for one of the 3 tickets so everyone that enters all 3 races has a good chance to find themselves in Hawaii.
We think this will only benefit everyone in the long term.
These events arent cheap to put on and we are doing it for the right reasons not to make a buck.
I sincerely hope that you can see the value in the entry fee, its $10.00 cheaper than other comparable races.
I hope to see you all there.
Kevin.

I have done one of these races on a prone board (in a hail storm!) and thought it was good value- water safety, timed places, drink bottle, cap, BBQ sausage at the end, chance for prizes and the fun of entering a race with a heap of other craft. kevin and his colleagues do a good job in organising.

Conditions look good and the course has been improved.

Chatted to kev yesterday and it looks like the long course SUP guys will do the run from Nth Av to Collaroy Basin which cuts out the round the Joey in to a headwind paddle and the cross wind section to Nth Av. Good news.

For guys and gals not so sure they want or can do the long course there is a start from Mona Vale Basin also which keeps will make the downwinder experience nice and easy.

The plan is to register at Palmy with everyone else, soak up all the good info at the Travis Grant clinic, head to Nth Av for the start. Should make for a better day for sure.

So far the forecast is as good as any we've see for a Sydney downwinder so if you've been thinking about doing one then this is the one.

For info on the Travis Grant clinic call Kev Long on 0416284617 to reserve your spot. Things like this don't come along too often so try to get there even if you don't race and just want to improve your paddling.

Cheers,

Sam.

Think is 12'6" under and over.

Might have to slot the rudder back in.

But the Hawaii trip prize is only for the unlimited class, right?

The $45 is for each race, not the series, correct?

$45 for each race correct, unless a paddle NSW member, and think hawaii is for unlimited yes...but shoot Kev a message Casso to check.

Tape an inch of foam to the front of your board, presto unlimited class . I fully expect you to beat me across the line.

To kite or to paddle - that is the real question!

Not sure if it's wise - the fixed fins a bit more stable, but it's nice to be able to paddle on both sides.

I am pretty sure that a few guys will be paddling stock and unlimited prone boards. I plan to if I can get there in time for start.

Agree with above comments. Well done Kev. Pretty cool to finish 8th out of 11 and still get prizes worth more than the entry fee, plus free BBQ and drinks. The guys at the front killed it on their 17 footers. Can't believe how quick they went. Especially with a nice NE'er behind them. Well done to Sam for taking the lead in the pointscore for the trip to Hawaii.

What were all the placings for the SUPs? What were the prizes? Where did everyone start from - Pittwater, Palmy, Avalon or Mona Vale?
