How good are these photos of Hawaiian Stewart Ferriman on a Paddle Surf Hawaii 9'3" Ripper model?

A whole container load of various sized PSH boards should be arriving in Australia soon. I've got dibs on a 9'3" Ripper like the one above.

Mate I'm semi retired, that means more surfing than working. I just make em mostly for the fun of it. Surfing keeps you young and makes you hold your breath every now and then.

Rod,
Look like molded boards to me. The custom PSH look more like custom boards with a clear finish I think. Hey I could be wrong.

I wonder if the first wave drilled him. I always get nailed if the lip touches my paddle when I'm in the pocket.

Yeah I know its hard to tell, but I always refer back to the early wind surf days when Mr Naish was riding the Mistral production boards in competition. LOL

Nah, according to Blane these are the real 'moulded' deal - epoxy PVC sandwich.
Tough as their nuts!

Yeah standard vacuum sandwich from Asia. Do they have a wood veneer deck under the paint. Wooden decks offer much better physical properties than PVC foam.

Rod? Rod Hocker! Mr 'CONCAVES' of SHANE Fame?

Is that really you? That was a long time ago when we used to sell your CONCAVES slalom boards at Balmoral Sailboards!!

Different time, slightly different toys! Same stoke, right!

NO this is new technology from what I understand- EPS core, epoxy sandwich. The PVC is in the Epoxy.

I first saw this in Tropical Blends in Hawaii - on an Angulo 11'9. I was so impressed with the construction I packed it up all 141" and brought it home. Great board - toughest construction I have seen.

Here is a bit of entertainment with Jim of Tropical Blends - giving the rails a good whacking and then jumping all over the board!

The new PSH moulded boards use the same technology.

Yeah I did notice someone getting out of the way, I reckon its a photog, If it was someone duckdiving you might see a bit of leg rope or something. I showed my wife the pic last night and she commented how nice a board he was riding. I would be Interested in a board like this, apparantley he weighs the same as me, only Im taller.

Yes, G'Day Andrew,
Coffs is a great place to bring up the kids, just like the northern beaches in the 1960's.

Yes I had a look at that video, you could do exactly the same to my boards way back when and we did the sme sale thingy whacken and jumping allover the boards.

The boards are cnc shaped then use a custom build construction (no moulds) which allows the rail wrap with no seam. Its the same way I build full vacuum constructed boards. The CNC shaping allows repeatability of shape, great for mass production, mind you I would not call building 75 hand built full vacuum sandwich boards a week, low production.

Vacuum sandwhich is layered like this from the outer deck down
1. cosmetic paint layer
2.glass layer
3. pvc foam (klegecel, temanto, airex, and others) layer. Or timber veneer which offers better dent resistance among othe rthings.
4. glass layer
5. eps foam of varying densities but mostly 16kg/m3, with or with out stringers.
6.glass layer
7. pvc foam layer
8.glass layer
9.cosmetic paint layer.

Got to go the wife is calling to go out for coffee.

Have a good weekend

Rod

Just trying to keep everything fairly honest construction wise, as there are now quite a few Aussie builders who can do this type of construction and also offer custom sizing for your new shooter.
