This is an old post about the PFD that I wear..

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=54357&SearchTerms=I,fought,the,law,and,the,law,won

Details on the type I wear.. http://www.ultrapfd.com.au/default.asp?PageID=63

I've heard that the PFD law/rules have changed or about to change?

Anyone know what's going on there?

btw.. I was in Canoes Plus not long ago (where I bought mine) and I've noticed that they make mine in a Red colour now.

After DJ's post (he got us a deal) I bought Kristi and I the same PFDs, they dont restrict your paddling.

I used mine on the Stkilda to Sandy paddle to try them out.

I also used a soft pack waterproof phone case and some time in the 100+ wipeouts it split on impact. They are not desingened for impact

There is enough room for epirb, small VHF, snickers bars and camel back.

The only point I would make is they take a camel back any size up to 3l.

With 3l (3kg) of fluid up that high on your back it can tend to make you very unstable in rough conditions from my meager experience 2 x DW.

I would put the fluid in a bumbag instead to keep the weight low.

Might just call the Port Authority and make sure they're not about to paint all the marker buoys red.

So do you have a dyration bladder in yours DJ?

Did you buy it seperately or did it come with the PFD?
What was the damage?

I think it retails for about $140.. The guys at Canoes Plus will look after you.

That particular PFD has a big pocket in the back for a bladder to go in.. The 2ltr Camelbak bladder fits perfect.

How about the ultimate pfd.....& yourve got room for all your mates

Some important technology used to stop life rafts blowing away when deployed could easily be adapted to a paddle board.

Notice the water bags hanging below the raft.

A suitable sized drogue could be mounted to the tail of a board, & automatic deployment happends when the legie breaks.
The tail would be held into the wind greatly reducing the windage & hence tendancy flip & fly away
Any good idea's or suggestions about deployment mechanisim all you designers out there?
