Crikey,,

I would love one of those,, but my mates (non SUPers) already think I look like a Gondola driver in training,, If I had one they would know I had graduated.

ps.. on a serious note, do these types of board paddle way faster, can anyone quantify this?

Cheers Paul

Stuey, Looks great, catches the runners beautifully.
Any plans to do trial runs on a course between say the 572 and a 16, 14 and shorter, to quantify the difference? I think that would be fasinating.
But man it looks good!

G'day Suppers, now that I am relaxing at home I have a little time to comment on the above video. First up, thanks for all your positive feedback, we put a lot of work into the 572 and watching that initial test run bought a lump to my throut! Both Woogie and I gave it a quick paddle round the flat waters of Noosa Sound while we waited and waited for our super-clubbie mate Chicken to turn up with his boat so we could film the action out in the bay. We didn't have a whole lot of light left so what you see comes from Woogie crossing the bar paddling about half a kilometer out turning round and coming back in. One quick run on a brand new craft in very average conditions and thats what we got. Imagine what the thing could with a solid following swell, the mind boggles! Also a bit bummed we had to squash the film and upload in low res as it was filmed in High-Definition widescreen and in that format looks even more spectacular. In real life the 572 looks even longer and sleeker. Glad you enjoyed and will film some more when chief test-pilot Woogie returns from Molakai. In the meantime , the initial test has given some new ideas and the Penetrator 572 will be further tweeked into the model Woogie and Danny Sheard will be paddling in the Seaway to Seaway race. Exiting times stay tuned......Stuey

Nice video and board Stuey - well done. The board is obviously super light, floaty and has stacks of glide. The video does show how easilly it can pick up even those little runners. I also liked how you cut up the video to fit the music - flowed really well.

You may find you get better results with youtube by converting the video to mp4 format prior to uploading it - I remember reading that somewhere.

Thanks Oliver, I can't take any credit for the editing however. My son Ryan did that using the standard i-movie package on his old G4 laptop, he's pretty tricky and makes his Dad real proud. He actually made a better one the night before but when he went to put the titles on lost the whole lot into cyber-space! Three hours work gone in a micro-second and I swear he nearly launched the thing through the window. Thanks for the tip and I will pass it on to him as he was a little dissapointed how his efforts showed up on you-tube. Hope to meet up with you one day and give you a run on one of my creations..........Cheers, Stuey

Stuey, have a look at the Vimeo site (vimeo.com/) they support high definition video. You may not be able to embed the video in this forum but you should be able to provide a link. The Stand Up Zone (www.standupzone.com/) use vimeo.

Thanks for that Steve, I can barely navigate myself around these sites my son tends to take care of the technical stuff and he is grateful for any tips like yours as he enjoys making vids and is keen to get really good at it.........Cheers, Stuey

Stuey,

Looks like fun! Finally saw video at home many times. Look forward to seeing the higher res video. Looks like Woogie was surfing the boat wake

Be great to see the 572 going upwind in gnarly swell/windchop like there is in Ventura, California. I watched a 2man OC disappear when going into the trough of the swells.

Keep up the efforts on the next video of the 572 and the refinements of the 572 shape! So stoked to be hearing and watching the development of the 572 Penetrator.

Hey Thomas, like I said that video was the result of one quick run out into the bay a turn and back. As far as on the boat wake, we don't do stuff like that! The only time Woogie was on the wake was in the river so we could get out there before dark. I thought we may be accused of speeding the film up if anything but like I said, we don't do stuff like that.........Stuey

Stuey,

No worries, I have seen photos of Gerry Lopez wakesurfing behind a boat up in Oregon on the lakes or rivers, he lives 200 miles from the coast. Waves are were you find them, ever seen supertanker surfing?!

There never seems to be enough time in the day for us to get done all that we want to, eh?
I had the same thoughts after buying the Naish, had to get it out that day no matter what the conditions or duration.

Glad you got out the Penetrator for a short run, I know I've been waiting to see how the 572 performs. What was Woogie's impression of the 572 compared to the 16' Penetrator?

The 572 so far seems to be somewhere around 30% faster than the 16' Penetrator which is a rocket.........Stuey

Both I'd say Teatrea...

Woogie is an extremely powerful man. And as a result makes it look very easy. He has been part of a hand picked Outrigger Team that has won Molokai (unofficial World Championships 72km) race twice. Now I know that no-one else on this forum or thezone for that matter can equate to that. He know's his stuff and is very helpful and willing to share his knowledge. But only does so if asked. He doesn't blurt out info/tips etc off that bat. He only ever gives you praise and encouragement for what you're doing.

After several sessions with Woogie (aka Coach) I know he likes to have his legs fairly straight with a slight knee bend. He also likes his feet in close together which he says takes the downward pressure off the side rails. He does have fantastic technique.

Yeah Teatrea, Sue's spot on there, sorry I didn't answer your question earlier, I've been trying to reply to all queries but yours had slipped through. The penetrators as I have said before are actually amazingly stable but it is a bit of a different feeling to your regular flat bottom and surfboard type rail shape. What is initially a bit of a tippy feel when in the upright position is replaced by an increase in stability the further the board is leaned over, which when you think about it is precisely when it's needed. This is because the bulk of the rail volume is on the top as opposed to the bottom, the reverse of a surfboard rail. As a complete novice paddler I can attest to this stability, I can paddle the full race models around in flat water without a problem and even fairly messy seas don't upset me too much..........Cheers Stuey
