Yesterday I bought some racks for my new car and also lashed out on a new Kialoa paddle...and today I got to test them out..

Does this car make my board look big?....At least I don't have to hang a little red flag off the end..

I use these nifty foam blocks on my racks..These are version two..The old ones would blow off before I could get my board on..These stay in place..

This is my new KIALOA paddle..It's the first paddle that I've found that's long enough for me..at about 88" long..It's one of the lightest..and the best part is the thin shaft..squashed rectangle shape in the center area..and very thin towards the T grip...It also has the best flex that I've used..and feels very powerfull...It's definitely the best paddle that I've ever used..Yeah I'm a happy chappy..

Today John came over to St Kilda beach to paddle with me...He came in his boat.....Check it out...Nice or what..

He had his Kalama SUP in the back..Dropped it off in the water..and paddled with me for a couple of hours on perfect glass...

T'was a great day.

Your setup looks great. Love the car, love the paddle - looking forward to trying it - and JD's boat looks sensational.

Today the bay looked spot on. This w/e is also looking extremely good.

Hi DJ,

Another thing that might be worth trying are white plastic gunnel (gunwale) strips which you can get from a rubber products supplier. They can be screwed/tied to your racks permanently and won't mark your board as they are designed for that purpose. That is what I use anyway.

DJ,

The only downside of the rola racks (I have a Swift too) is that if you use a boardbag it can make a lot of noise against the roof. I have a *board 11.2 and even with foam spacers it can make a lot of noise at motorway speed.

To fix it I put a towel in the bag between the board and roof. It blocks the flow of air and stops noise.

Hi DJ,

Please ignore the rusty screws. I need to replace them with stainless ones soon. I've been using these strips with the Kona One, bottom down and no board bag since last year. I can't tell where the racks touch so seems to work.

I see what you mean..thanks for the pictures.

I think I like to be able to just lift off the foam pads when not using them and try not to add too much extra wind noise when the boards not on.

Your idea would have worked great on my old 4x4..These boards are so big that lifting them up and onto the racks can be a risky maneuver for you back.

With mine I slide the foam pads to the edge..and once the boards on..I slide it to the center of the racks..It seems to work pretty good.
