Surftech have one of the new 14' SUP's out for test runs for those interested and I managed to have a look at one down my way this morning.

Look nice from a distance, far to little grip on the deck for anyone wanting to move their feet in any direction outside the very plumb centre of the board but the killer was the weight......

Holy Cow - the weight of this thing was horrendous !

Now, maybe I'm spoilt with my Naish's and the sweet weight of them but seriously, it felt like it was filled with lead.

Anyhow, just some random comments that I thought I'd share.

Oh, and a few shot's being my first SUP photo's - not ripping, nothing flash but stoked !

I got one of the Laird Pearson Arrow boards a few weeks ago. It feels much lighter than my PSH WAA 11'er despite being wider, longer and thicker. My PSH came with no deck grip at all. PSH plus grip plus new fins (crap plastic fins supplied) more expensive than the 14'er

To cover the entire board would significantly add to the cost. I would much prefer to customise my own grip to give the board some individuality.

This board is a general cruiser not a dedicated race machine. Horses for courses. My board is exactly suited to what I bought it for.

BTW I also have a Naish 10' Mana which is lighter than my PSH WAA 9'6

Hey Dr Funk......ALMOST !!....sshhh.

Pete, thanks for your comments, as you say, the Mana 10' is lighter than your 9'6 so maybe I'm just tuned to lighter boards - it was just so noticeable to me when I picked it up.

That said, I'm not anti Surftech at all and wanted to clarify that. I think it's fabulous that they even provide testers and I also have 3 x Surftech Longboards (10' Harbour / 10'6 Munoz & 11' Hawaiian Pro Design) and love all 3 so it's not a chance to bag the opposition thing here.

DJ and I saw this board at the Mambo ,didn't get a chance to ride it ,but we felt it was more designed for long cruise paddles with a lot of gear to carry eg overnight camping etc ,this maybe why it's a wee bit more heavier.

Must say that I noticed a certain weight difference between the PSH boards. The newer 5 fin models here in Europe are considerable lighter than the earlier PSH models. And they now have the 5 finboxes and handle extra.

The Pearson Arrow looks interesting. Would sureley like to do a testrun on that board.

just picked up the pearson arrow 10'6 x 29" 3/4 wide .absolutely love it ! turns great really responsive and most of all slices through surf going out the breaks like a demon. fairly light but super strong even good for some long distance paddling as it glides well in the surf .. just my 2 cents happy paddling
