While checking out the new C4 racing paddle I came across these cool little carry straps that mount off deck leash plugs.

They alowe you to carry your board without the need for a hand hole.

I have modified my new 11'4" Naish to be able to do the same thing.. I might have to order some of these cool little C4 thingies..

DJ those straps look ideal .
In the video clip they stated that the new C4 boards already have holes cut into the board to fit these straps.
My board is a 11'6 Naish ,how would i get them to fit my board?

Cheers

Hi Boylos the C4 boards have a couple of leash plugs mounted in the deck of their boards and I thought it was such a good idea I fitted some to my Naish.

It's pretty easy to do yourself.. here's a link.. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39934&SearchTerms=fitting,deck,leach,plugs

I didn't do it so much to carry the board with the paddle through the loops because the Naish boards have a hand hole.. I did it mostly to hold my paddle so I can keep both hands on the board while carrying it when it's windy.

Hey Oliver. I have the plugs on the deck of both my 11'6 and 10'6 C4 and use the paddle to carry the board all the time. works a treat, even in a howling wind.

Same here on my 10-6 but i don't have the EZ straps just the velcro strips. Definitely makes carrying the board much easer.

I'm not sure that I would trust those thin velcro strips with the weight of the board..(it's ok for just the paddle).. I think the thin black rope is safer.

DJ would you carry your board with the leash plugs you fitted yourself? im thinking of doing the same but not sure how much weight they could manage compared to factory fitted plugs.Im not saying yours are not installed properly i just dont know if factory/shop plugs are fitted differently? Ian

Any surf board repairer would fit them and it should not cost much.

I fitted them the same on my old 10'6" Naish that Helke has now and she carries it all the time using them because her hands are not strong enough using the hand hole.

I don't think factory/shop plugs are fitted differently.. I've seen surfboard shops fit leach plugs exactly the same way as I do and they hold up fine.

I know Stonker like to glass over their leach plugs and router out the holes but although it might be stronger that way I don't think it looks as neat and if your plug is going to pull out (like in a big wipeout) it's best the plug pulls rather than lift the glass..anyway that's what I was told years ago by a surfboard maker.

I'm no expert..someone else here might know more..I wonder what boardbumps thinks?

i'll be interested to know if C4 have reverted to traditional velcro instead of the modern version they used on the original equipment little loops which wasn't nearly as sticky, grippy (whatever!)

DJ,
How do you find after having this on you board, the distance and placemnt of the plugs? is the balance point imortant? I guess not cos the paddle can be held anywhere?

On my ULI they are 80cm apart and I've asked the same on my Stonker. As long as they are placed around the middle of the board it wouldn't matter because it's where you hold the paddle that matters.

I copied mine off a C4 board and they're 60cm (2') apart.. I've done three boards now.

The next one will be my new Glide (in about 14 sleeps) ..and I'll be puting some lech plugs on the front deck area as well.

I was going to do mine 3 foot apart (90cm). One 1 foot forward of the mid point and one 2 foot aft of the mid point. Ok do you rekon?

Sounds about right..depending on fins and if you have your leggie wrapped around the tail the balance point will change.

Thanks for the idea and the "how to" DJ.
I used the rail savers from some broken leggies for the velcro part.
I placed the plugs so as to drill through the thin deck grip. Although a long way apart, there is no problem. The velcro doesn't seem to get in the way.
The Kalama 11'6" (15kg) has never been so easy to lug around.
Stoked.
