Off to Bali on the weekend and just made myself a new quad fin SUP.

I want a fin setup that is going to be fast and drivey, something that will hold and maybe even get
me barrelled if I'm lucky. So speed and hold are probably the most important factors.

A friend on the Goldy suggested Sunnys as front fins and something like FG5's for back fins. I have
this setup already but haven't used it much and wondering if anyone else has an opinion.

Looks a bit weird, don't know much about those fins.
Looks like they give heaps of drive, maybe fast.

I wouldn't be rushing into putting the FG5's up the back.... That fin is actually pre-set with extra toe-in.... but I'm not saying it won't work.

FCS have a big range of quads now.

DJ's pic is Futures obviously. Sounds like you're on the FCS plugs ?

Quite a few of you will already be aware of this. These pics show the "pre-set toe-in" on the FG5. Blue Fin is FG5, and Grey Fin is a Glide Fin (from Torquay) with an identical template to FG5. The photos are showing the inside flat face of both fins, and the tabs on the Glide Fin are flush with the inside face, but the tabs on the Blue fin are off-set on the inside face, for more toe-in, for tighter turns.

Like all fin choices its dependant on how wide the tail is on your board, how the rocker and rail are formed etc ect. Generally the SA large rears are way too big. Assuming typical dimensions, Id suggest the PC SF4. Alround good fin set up. I use a combo of PC-5 fronts with SA med rears seems to be a my fav set up for me at the moment on both my sup and my short baords but means your need to buy two sets of fins. The SF4 are similar to these all in one set off the shelve. Have a good trip.

Yes, all of these factors of board design cross multiplied with your own style, weight diestribution and power.

last week I rode a board with M7 Fronts with M5 centres in the rear which are bigger than SA large quad centers. For my money I would have preferred a little more fin area.

Point is it's horses for courses, there are no firm answers, you need to work out what works best for you. What I feel lacks drive may feel too stiff for you. Some people prefer to pivot others prefer more fin area to allow them to stay on rail a little longer.

Test, test, test. It's the only way.

As well as your board specifics as per Scotty Mac, and the size/hollowness of waves you will be surfing, your weight, height, and how you tend to surf can give a range from Lopez (large) to Kelly's (small) in quads.

Sounds like you have FCS setup?

The SF4/Stretch are a safe bet for an all round 'off the rack' quad set though.

Thanks guys, yeah I know there are a lot of variables but I was just hoping for some guidance which you guys have given. The board looks something like this although the dimensions ended up being 8'6" x 28.7" x 4.05" and roughly 108L after a few small changes.

I'm 82kgs, 5'8" and like a loose board, although this was made to go well in faster, steeper, hollower waves. Less top to bottom and more down the line. At least this is what I'm hoping to get from it. My other boards were meant for anything up to 4' but I hope this will be able to handle up to 6'.

My thinking behind the Sunny's and FG5's. The Sunny's have a large amount of surface area & are tall so should hold well but are pretty upright so should still be loose. The FG5's with the inside foil and long base should give plenty of drive. FG5's have been my favourite fin for years, at least when I was surfing.

I have only ridden quad SUP a few times, first the Naish 9'6" (tanker) and recently an 8'8" custom which I loved so I'm not that experienced when it comes to quad SUP's. Thanks for the feedback everyone, unfortunately I don't have time to test, test, test cos I'll be on the plane Sunday morning and it still needs a hot coat.

Thanks Lance, yeah I've got FCS. Speed fins won't fit although FCS will fit Speed fin
plugs. They are a good plug system for sure, probably the best but the fins are still
mainly a basic composite.

The OKE guys are good, they will be spraying my board when I get back.
