How did you position that GoPro as that angle was really good? It gives you a nice perspective of the paddler going for the runs.

As for giving the ski paddlers a go - that will be a tough one. I don't think we will see the day that a SUP will outpaddle a ski paddler. No harm in trying though.

We do the exact run the surfskis have been doing for years - their record for a double is 33min and for a single is 35min. That was done in 65knot SE! The run is 11.5km

Chris Bertish did sub 50min in 35knots and he has only done 3 downwinders (which was on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - and he would have gone again except he had to go to a wedding yesterday....).

So Chris is pretty hooked and it will be interesting to see where it all goes - looking at how young the sport of downwind stand up paddling is and how little time the guys have spent practising, we might see some vast improvements in time.

But yes, 3 skis overtook me as well, and they were flying, we'd need to be on runners 90% of the time to keep up.......

Cape Town is unreal for downwinders as we have the Cape Dr blowing hard virtually every evening - often 35-40knots so watch this space

We straped a Kite harness, with a baton that holds the GoPro just behind the riders head, onto PeterP who was riding the 17'. It does give a great perspective.
I am working on the more of the footage from the kite harness camera as well as cameras mounted on the nose of Chris's 14'. So I will posted another video shortly that should give a better perspective of the beauty of downwinders in Table bay with a humping SE.

Yeah the Downwind scene is really starting to take off now and we have a couple of regular routes that can be paddled. As PeterP pointed out we have some unreal conditions for it especially in Table Bay with the Cape Dr encouraging you along the way with Table Mountain in the background watching over us.

The invitation is always open to Breezers who venture this way to come join us for a paddle or surf.
