Rody,
In Jan 2008 I had a back injury at work and lost all sensation in my left leg up to the hip and right leg up to my knee. I had an spinal recompression in April 2008 and started rehab walking up to 6km per day. In Nov 2008 I started to SUP on a serious level paddling on flat water for rehab to increase core strenght.
I cant prone surf anymore or I pay for it for almost a fortnight with severe back pain. Supping has allowed me to take off 17kgs become fitter than I have been in 20 years and I have a rediculous smile all the time.
The local surfers around here brought me books and dvds, looked after my family, challenged me to keep going when I just wanted to take the big kick out some days. They love taking the piss out of me every time I'm out just coz they can. I bleive I am known as the SWEEPER lol.
20 mins in the water with a group of mates just shooting the breeze is very valuable to me. If I get some great waves it a major bonus.
Days like 2 Saturdays ago at Urqharts in overhead clean surf was a dream to me 12mths ago when I couldnt walk!!!!!
Blanes boards have shown me that even Big Kahoonas can have a performance board that rips and that has really broadened the smile again.
Whats not to be stoked about????????
