I spent my whole childhood wishing I could get out of Brisbane and move to the coast, but since I've discovered this downwind thing, I reckon I could almost handle living there again. (On the Bay anyway) Got to love downwinding when you don't have to worry about the ocean swell while your paddling, or getting smashed while you're coming in!

Hahaha so true shieldsy. The bay has it's advantages, Especially for us surf kooks like nick and I that aren't used to the surf swell. Moreton bay is perfect.

I couldn't live in brisbane itself either but the bayside suburbs or where I'm at up on the peninsula and having the ocean within walking distance with the board goes pretty good.

South wind for the next 3 or 4 days is looking good again

Good to see you have eased your self back into it after your short term hiatus Nick. ;)

Your next one is Brisbane's own M2O, the C2B run Cleveland to Bribie a good SE'r would blow you the 50K and point you straight into Pumicestone Passage to finish just pass the bridge on Bribie.

You can use the AllStar Andy, I doubt I will ever be fit enough or good enough to do a 50k run.

Hahah for sure surfrod, but luckily for myself and Brad my wife is a legend, she dropped us at Cleveland , then tracked our progress on the "find my iPhone app" and was waiting in the car park at Scarborough 2 mins before we arrived....
was a great day all round, no 3 hour car shuffling to spoil the day..hahah

That run looks like BULK FUN. You blokes should organise a big 51km Cleveland to Bribie Downwind race the East Coast needs a race like that. Like the KOTC have the best Downwind race over on the West coast. With the Cleveland to Bribie race everyone would need a support boat that way you would not need to wear those gay PFD's just a leg rope.
Give it a go guys.

That would be BULK fun.
Not so much if the wind wasn't there or it was westerly on the day

Not sure maritime Qld would ever allow a race to go through their shipping channel though. 100 odd sups scattered across the channel wouldn't invite them to sign the permit to quickly.

Moreton bay is all time for down winding, some day soon we will have an offical large scale dw race

Correct Lacey, certainly is a big body of water...need to be very careful crossing the river mouth too, some bloody big ships go in and out of there.

And don't forget it's full of big toothies too! Back in the seventies when tangalooma was still a whaling station, Moreton bay held the world record for biggest great white. I used to hear stories when I was a kid growing up at Redcliffe that when they were dragging the dead whales up the ramp, it was common for 5 and 6 meter toothies to chomp on to the whale, get dragged up too and then flop themselves back to the water. Never saw any big ins but saw plenty of smaller sharks when being a member of the Redcliffe ripple riders, surfing at queens beach whenever the wind howled.

Haven't seen a shark yet in all my time in the bay YT, but no doubt they are there, fingers crossed wont run into one anytime soon. Plenty of dolphins, turtles and Dugongs though !!

for sure Lacey, that is a bloody long way to paddle. We have a guy in the club that has offered to support boat when/if we try this one.
