I've read a number of posts about memorable sessions so thought I should add one of my own.
I had a break at work this morning of a few hours and technically I should have stayed at work even though there was nothing for me to do. Instead I thought its mid week, beautiful sunny winter day and off shore. Only one option really!!
I headed to metts to find no one out and a few nice ones coming through. 2nd wave of the day and I go to pull off the wave, not sure what happens next but I think the wind flicked the board back at me hitting me in the head. Feeling pretty dizzy I consider paddling back out but then notice blood pouring down my front. Decide to go in where I guy thinking about going out comes to help and he happens to be a paramedic.
There were a few surfers that had just pulled in and everyone came to offer help with getting my board away, driving me to hospital etc. They won't be reading this but thank you to all pf them for offering assistance.
Anyway I know have 9 stitches above my right eye and feeling a bit guilty about it as I should have been at work and if I was at work this wouldn't have happened.
Karma or unfortunate accident??

So that is what teachers do during morning break time

I got another one for you.

Playing rugby and having a stormer of a game two tries and a couple monster hits then go to grab the tiny little scrumhalf and tear the tendon on my ring finger diodnt even know i did it until after the game when cannot move my finger.

No surf for 2 months.

Verdict - give up rugby

Photographic evidence

Ouch, you win! I don't want to give up the surf so maybe the Gath like Dogman is the go. As I'm a trumpet player for a large part of my job, I'm lucky I didn't knock my teeth out.

bummer....meths was looking very suppatastic today. I think the low forecast swell caught a few crew out. The light offshore winds and crystal clear water have been calling hard all week....well all month really.

But due to aggravating my sciatica again a couple of weeks ago after just getting back on the water, I am out of the water....So my story is worked a 55-60 hour week for two years planning to have time off and enjoy myself at the end of the project, spend time with the kids family holidays get fit..blah blah blah.... one day after finishing work went horse ridding with my mad keen horse loving daughter and 6 months later still paying for all those years of not looking after the body,

Positive side is that I am now fully health focused and getting stronger by the day.

At least cuts, broken bones and tendons heal in a given time frame.....

Hand a long break over Easter in Fingal Bay. Surf was cranking but I decided I'd teach a friend to surf in the sheltered water at the Southern end of the beach near the boat ramp.

After about 20 mins I step of my board in the sandy shallow only to step on sand covered and oyster shell encrusted rock. result = 8 stitches (2 to seal the severed artery)! Worse thing was it was the first day of the long weekend and I had to take antibiotics, so no alcohol for the rest of the hols

Bummer hawkie! After a little quad fin incident where I got 8 stitches on the top of my head and three on my forehead from one of the other fins I usually wear the old Gath.

Karma....not sure about that, I think the way to look at is that it could have been much worse and now you will wear a helmet so you won't really hurt yourself in the future. So it was actually your lucky day!

Perhaps it was my lucky day. If it was my teeth, career over! Its hard to play the trumpet without any teeth!

As I was coming up the beach with a face full of blood, I thought to myself that if this was Greeny, the first thing he would do is take photos.

You win Adam....
So how did you explain that when you got back to work?
Have to catch up for a DW once the wind turns up.

Yeah I checked down the road Shunter. Some big sets coming through but was closing out. A couple of longboarders and 3 SUPS! Not only that but it was ONSHORE!
So I went for a drive further north to Rescues. No one out and it swung offshore!
